Wow I'm very surprised to see Guscette in there as the DH. Why not Armstrong or Lastres or Talbott?

Could Sully be setting up some double switcheroo later on in the game?

Lastres and Talbott have both looked pretty bad at the plate in their limited opportunities. Don’t know why not Armstrong.

*. I do like Guscette though. I know he’s struggled this year, but we know he can rake. He’s more of a contact guy, but he has some pop too.

I like the kid. I met his mother at a series last year. She is really cool. His toughness with that Aleman fastball still wows me. I would love nothing more than to see Mac playing in the Bigs for someone for many years. Really do like him a lot.

But the numbers right now don’t seem to back this decision up. Must be a reason though.

Throughout all the pluses and minuses—Armstrong is not where we need him to be with his bat right now…I agree 100% we need him!

Limited ABs, but Lastres is hitting over .350 with a HR. Not sure about SEC stats tho. Kid can hit.

Maybe just a matter of trying to get Guscette going.

Agreed BUT Talbott’s batting average excluding his first game is quite bad.

Agree, just a little surprised a 300 hitter hasn't gotten one swing in 3 weeks

I would much rather see Armstrong in the lineup than Talbott.

Well I think we can safely say that Mac was the least of UF’s problems…

Congrats Mac on the special though sadly ultimately irrelevant game!!!!

At this point I'm going to back off the stats info. All the stats in the world ain't going to matter if we keep blowing games like tonight against Georgia or get blown out like the LSU series. Probably the only important stat going forward is we sit at 3-4 in the conference with a rough schedule ahead. Either we figure out how to win with what we got or end up as a 2 or even a 3 seed in the NCAA. But I'm afraid its about to get ugly in the next few weeks. Hold on tight Gator fans and hope things will get better in May.

I have been in a text discussion with @WESGATORS since the end of the game (really since 2015ish but that isn’t relevant) about this very topic. You and I are on the same page. As an Engineer, I want to look at all of the minutiae but 3-4 is the ultimate judge. I can analytically “prove” all sorts of things but unless you win the games, it doesn’t matter what the numbers say. UF should have won tonight. They didn’t. Sucks. Just plain sucks…

I know I just said no more stats but this one actually made my night after such a bad loss.....
Of all the Gator players on our roster, the Gator hitter with the highest batting average, the highest OPS, the highest slugging percentage, and the highest on base average in conference right now is Mac Guscette who has 2 hits in 4 at bats with a .500 batting average. Go figure. Where's my plate of crow. Like a wise man once said, you can prove anything right and you can prove anything wrong if given enough statistics.
