Both wise beyond their years and Zunino as we all know was a monster. Not many like Z.

He’s pretty filthy to everyone. One of the best relievers in the country and he really wanted to be a starter.

Great point. I used to lose my mind when people would say they don’t matter.
That being said, as I mentioned Miami not having a game means rested arms but could be a disadvantage to their hitting as this time of year bats are still behind pitchers when good meets good and no live action through the week doesn’t help bats.

the other big emphasis for this week Is to spread our arms out so we don’t use too many people up for this weekend. Like to see Ursitti Tuesday or Wednesday as that arm is special and needs innings. Also like to see Finvold eat 3-4 innings.

Agree on both Ursitti and Finvold. I would prefer to see Ursitti only once in the midweek-just enough to keep him sharp but as the same time be locked and loaded for the weekend.

    74,

something going right already for Ursitti as he’s added 1-2 mph from high school ( at least when I saw him). Now if he can spot it look out!!!
And Finvold- love the way he pitches.
    66 mph curve
    84 on the edge
72 mph change that drops off the table.
Love to see Fin for 2 innings and then Ursitti for 2 as the velo diff alone would cause issues.

As long as they’re pitching and not throwing—they’re gaining ground IMHO.

For those interested in Jud Fabian and strikeouts, last year after 9 games Jud had 15 strikeouts and this year Jud has 8 strikeouts.

Edited: In his last 4 games Jud is 7 for 17, just another improvement to his batting.

Cool, but the more important stat might be walks/hbp. Have to think they r down, tho that Liberty series was a bad start.

Here's a very good stat to see. As a team the Gators batting average is now .300 compared to our opponents at .199.

We have a lot more weapons on offense - more guys who can deliver up and down the lineup and coming off the bench. There seem to be a lot of quality arms, too. It's just a matter of Sully figuring out how to maximize their efficiency. The Miami series will be a big test.

And our other weapons after 9 games. Who here thought before the season we would be thinking of our pitchers as weapons. As @74nole says when you are on the mound you have to be attacking the hitters. Everyone on here except Ursitti and Abner are heading in the right direction. I'll revisit the hitting and pitching numbers after this weekend.

    Interesting stat....
Last year after 10 games the Gators had hit 10 homeruns.
This year after 10 games the Gators have now hit 24 homeruns.
I heard they are currently in the top 5 of NCAA teams with HRs but that was before the 6 homeruns hit tonight against FAMU.

24 would put UF at #2 nationally pending some of the other results tonight which I am not going to bother to check.

Let's remember the competition we have played to date before we get too excited. The next phase of this season starts this weekend.

Sure there will be some settling with the stats and I'm sure a few reality checks will come from this weekend for some younger players. That's the way every season starts against the teams we play. Sure we haven't played Miami yet but that Liberty team was very good. Don't assume they were less competition because they are currently 7-1 on the year with their only loss against Barco in the season opener. The stats will always settle in as we start the SEC campaign but we are off to a much better start than last year and that's a good feeling for now.

JD made me wonder which is what I like.
Here's a comparison of returning players current batting averages as of March 3rd from this year to last year, minimum 15 ABs.
    Player Name ......... BA 2022 ..... BA 2021 ..... Difference
    Jud Fabian ------------- .289 ----------- .237 -------- +52
    Colby Halter ----------- .429 ----------- .321 -------- +108
    Kenny Calilao ---------- .192 ----------- .286 -------- (-94)
    Josh Rivera ------------ .300 ----------- .205 -------- +95
    Sterlin Thompson ----- .425 ----------- .280 -------- +145
    Kris Armstrong -------- .138 ----------- .296 -------- (-158)
Comparisons for Mac Guscette, Tucker Talbott, and Wyatt Langford not showing because LY they were short of 15 ABs by March 3rd. Certainly as most here know Kenny and Kris have a lot more potential but its good to see Jud, Colby, Josh and Sterlin all doing so much better.
But to JD's point that will change after this weekend. Then I would counter that playing Liberty and Miami this early in the season is tougher competition than last year.
