Sully was interviewed on 1010 XL and said something along the lines of next season reminds him of 2010 where they (in his words) ran a bunch of guys out there who were very young but very talented and ended up doing very well.

Great example with the catcher’s position-I think that same type of competition and skill levels are going to create an atmosphere in the clubhouse, in the dugout, on the field, and hopefully away from the field that produces the type of team camaraderie that keeps our Gators at the top of their sport.

Let's worry more about the other 8 men out before we get to DH. Fall ball gets more and more interesting with the more possibilities we try to imagine. Until Armstrong shows me he can nail down 1st with his defense then I'll wonder who the DH will be.

    87—

Did anyone track his first base play at the Cape this summer? Every time I saw anything on him it referred to him as his team’s first baseman and then addressed his hitting (HRs/Doubles), at least that’s what I saw.

I've seen Armstrong make so many dumb mistakes.

    Is he very baseball smart!

Read the Cape Cod report on him. It stated he looked good defensively at first base.

My point exactly re Armstrong has to learn how to play 1st with authority.
He can hit the big blast, will K some but acceptable if he can learn to play 1st base. I remember the first game of 2021 season v. Canes-- first inning foul pop up in the February wind; Armstrong at 1st had by far easiest angle on ball and he didn't chase... Hickey with his catcher's mitt had to run too far and the ball popped out...it was almost as if a harbinger....We won that game but the next game, the wheels came off and I still believe that series was the beginning.

Nothing that I have seen. @gatorjjh might have something more to share. He has been very quiet lately. I'm starting to wonder if he is already starting his pre-fall ball workout routine to handle all those practices he goes to.

Agreed, but I think we’d all agree Armstrong has to be somewhere in the daily line up.

Here is the scouting report from D1 Baseball:

Kris Armstrong, 1B (Florida)- Big, strong and athletic, Armstrong has big-time power potential from both sides of the plate. Son of former MLer Jack Armstrong, Kris is also a switch-thrower and was a pitcher for the Gators during his freshman season in 2019. From the left side of the batter’s box he’s a dead pull hitter with a hook swing, therefore making him susceptible to the hard stuff in, as well as back foot sliders. His righthanded swing showed some length in the two plate appearances against lefties that I was able to see. At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, he’s athletic, but is a well below average runner. He defends well at first base with plenty of arm strength. He currently leads Falmouth with six home runs and is second on the team with a .295 batting average.

I've been wondering if there is any chance of fall games this year. I suspect the Covid rise will probably cancel most everything not practice related. Has anyone heard any plans for this fall other than a usual start date in early October? Even if they play them I doubt they let fans in at this point.

It sure is quiet. I remember how the first week of school was always a big deal to see who showed up.

We have many incoming frosh. They will remake our team.

I wish I knew which ones are the best hitters.

I do know Catcher Rene Lastres is a good power hitter.
