Valid observation. I still maintain that Florida had as much talent as any team in the country (as evidenced by them having tied for the most players drafted in the first 10 rounds). But like I said before, there is no doubt that their play as a team was not up to those standards. This team underachieved big time, there is no doubt. The defense was subpar, the pitching was subpar, the situational hitting was subpar and there was just something missing and off the entire year.

Still nothing showing for Jud or Nathan. I guess I won't believe it until they start class.

Good answer. When Alan went to school at Ole Miss out of HS Cleveland associates were on campus and followed him from where he parked his truck to the classroom door he walked through trying last ditch effort to get him to sign.

I know in the past....MLB teams had until the drafted player showed up for class, but I've seen it printed this year that the deadline to sign players is Aug 1st (here is a clip from one of the article). Does anyone know if the rules changed for this year?

Whether that incentive is strong enough to sway players to return to college will be clear by Aug. 1, the signing deadline for 2021 draftees.

Hickey signed with the Red Sox today for $1 million, slot value was $410,000. Good for him.

RHP Shawn Guilliams, a Gator transfer from the College of Central Florida in Ocala, drafted in the 11th round by the Reds, signed yesterday for $272,500. The only unsigned drafted players left are Fabian and high schoolers Kyle Larsen & Ty Evans.

Good for Nathan Hickey- more than double the slot value... Hickey signing tells me Jud is not signing. Boston had some bonus money freed up after Jud turned down their offer-- rumor has it Jud was asking for $3 milion from a $1.86M slot value. No way Boston was going to go there. Not sure that is best move for Jud but we'll see.

Exactly right, why Jud should be back. With Hickey gone that could shake up our infield. I still say we keep Rivera at SS and Halter at 2nd. Yes Halter could go to 3rd but I think either Deric Fabian or even Thompson ends up at 3rd before we move Halter. If Armstrong does not improve his defense at 1st then unfortunately we have to move Calilao back to 1st. We have some high schoolers coming in that could play 1st but Sully will want experience in the infield.

Since the roster is clearing up here's a possible lineup and batting order to consider.
    LF - Michael Robertson
    RF - Sterlin Thompson
    CF - Jud Fabian
    DH - Kris Armstrong
    C - Mac Guscette
    1B - Kenny Calilao
    2B - Colby Halter
    SS - Josh Rivera
    3B - Deric Fabian 2.0
I'm really not sure who to put in at lead off yet. So for now Robertson gets it for his speed and because he played for Venice. That said it would be very unusual for Sully to start a freshman at leadoff. I believe Caglionone might end up at 1B which would put Calilao back out in RF which is better for all. Of all the positions of this team this fall, I'll be watching the players at 3rd base. Whoever ends up there will effect several other positions in the lineup.

Thanks for the update and with really useful links. I've added it to the first page and will eventually combine them together with the roster when they report to fall ball.

    A few thoughts
-I don't think Armstrong came back to DH, 1B is his to lose
-Obviously Robertson is an unknown, but with all the experience returning I would be surprised to see him that high in the order.
-I think we will have to wait on Caglionone for a while
-That "should" be a solid offensive lineup.....of course the staff is what terrifies me

That's a very good point about Armstrong as evident in his summer league play. I've kept him as an either or in my lineup at 1B. Believe me, I'd rather see Calilao in the OF every game. I hope to see how Armstrong looks this fall at first to make a more informed choice before season starts.
As for Robertson, who else would pick as our leadoff hitter as we stand now?

That's a good question. Would like to see Rivera cut down on the K's and be an option. I guess Halter might be the most likely to take that second year jump

I agree that pitching is going to be the key to the season. Other than a reliable Hunter Barco, the pitching staff is full of unknowns. With Brandon Sproat on the National Team where Sully is the pitching coach, I expect to see him getting a weekend starter nod. David Luethje and Nick Pogue have experience and should be in the mix and Tim Manning came in highly touted and will get a serious look for his sophomore year. I've read they're very high on Philip Abner, but there a lot of question marks on the pitching staff and it will be interesting to see who emerges, not only as weekend starters with Barco, but midweek starters, relievers and closer(s). Lots of puzzle pieces have to be worked out and that is scary.

^Not 100% sure on Pogue’s contributions coming off TJ. Per @74nole, it can take 24 months…

Correct Greg-if it’s a true power guy it’s going to be 18-24 months back to full game speed. Alan’s recovery time was right on this (which was Dr. James Andrews recovery protocol).

All of the throwing a pitcher does in front of that window is referred to as “getting your work in”. It takes time and repetition to regain total body strength, break up scar tissues, regain your control/command/confidence and in this process you have the mental hurdles of trusting yourself and your stuff.
