You can't have your cake and eat it too. When the world shuts down, someone has to pay. We are all going to be paying for the covid shutdown mistake for years. Alot of boomers are going to see there retirement shrink here soon and Im looking forward to it. You can thank that generation for alot of the issues we face today...

Pandemic shutdowns are inevitable. You don't shutdown, and hospitalizations and deaths start climbing off the charts, people naturally shut down, even without government orders. This happened in Italy in late 2019 and early 2020. The Italians thought it was, "just another flu," until the daily ambulance sirens became unbearable, and people stopped going outside, avoiding people.

And while it seems intuitive that countries that stayed more open would fare better economically, the reverse is actually true. Countries that focused first and foremost on the health and wellbeing of their citizens are the ones that have come out on the other side in better economic condition. Still, a global pandemic on the scale of COVID is a no-win situation. Even the best of countries saw economic losses, and every country is currently facing inflation. Still, the mistakes we made weren't shutting down. It was not taking enough precautions early on, not taking COVID seriously, and then not fighting the disinformation campaign surrounding the vaccine.

Interesting definition of dumpster fire economy. Yes, inflation is problematic, and while driving a more fuel efficient car helps, we all pay more when diesel is higher. Because diesel costs impact all shipping costs. Still, unemployment is at 3.4%, and we're experiencing record level tax revenues. Those aren't dumpster fire metrics. I'd say, along with the inflation, it puts in a mixed bag category.

I drive a 2012 Civic Hybrid, and probably fill up once every 3 to 4 weeks.

Well historically low gas prices are indicative of a crap economy. I vividly recall Michelle Bachman promising $2 gas during her POTUS run (already scary.) What exactly was her plan for that?

Lying to the public about supplements and weight loss drugs is pretty much the only reason anybody knows him.

Not a fan of these types of responses personally. Sure there are plenty of people driving ridiculously over sized vehicles unnecessarily but there are also plenty of responsible people who have to drive larger vehicles or trucks as well. It's not that simple for many.

I will say I get tired of people screaming about gas prices while not changing their driving habits at all. Some can't control what vehicle they are currently in but the can control some lifestyle changes.
