I think Garland has been working on this for a lot longer than 3 days and also, everybody knew Trump was running again, so I do not think this has anything to do with Trump's announcement.

I don't know, man. This feels different. This is the 3rd formal investigation by Congress (two impeachments). I think Trump will have some legal consequences due to this.

I would agree that Garland was preparing to announce that he would be appointing a special counsel long before Trump formally announced that he would be running again for the presidency. While Trump's announcement was probably nothing more than confirmation of a decision that the Donald most likely made as soon as knew although has yet to admit that he lost in 2020, it was that the announcement from Trump that triggered the timing of Garland's announcement of the appointment.

Yes, I’m quite sure he had gamed out contingencies.

Go look at the poll on this board about trumps announcement. Nearly half of voters on that poll didn’t think he was announcing a run.

I’m through expecting/hoping for trump to be held accountable for anything. If it happens, it will be the first time ever.

The records case could be prosecuted in very little time. They have all the evidence and the laws that were allegedly broken are very straight forward.

The only thing that is different is this time you hope it takes him down when before you didn’t. Welcome to the party - you’re six years late.

I think we have to have at least some faith in the justice system. While I don’t doubt that there are members of congress who would indict politicians for simply being a member of the other party, I have to believe that the courts wouldn’t let anything like that stand.

If Trump meets the established bar for indictment, his past post of president shouldn’t protect him. Trump will have all proper judicial protections afforded to him, and if he is still found guilty, we should accept that this is the correct outcome.
