Every commentator i saw said it was a hold. He grabbed the jersey and slowed down the receiver. The debate, for those who didn't think it should have been called, was whether the refs should have overlooked it or not. One of the nfl defensive backs on the panel said the reason why the refs will call that every time is if the receiver gets separation from the DB, and the DB then tugs on the shirt to slow him down, it will be called. Another commentator made a very interesting point. If the receiver and DB are wearing white sleeves, the DB should NEVER wear black gloves (only white). He said this penalty was very easy for all to see because the DB's black gloves combined with white sleeves for the DB and receiver was like a bullseye for the refs.

Contact in 5 yards doesn't mean tugging jerseys. You are Clueless.

Literally arguing with the defender it was called on

BTW, what happened to Terry Bradshaw’s height. I think he was listed at 6-3, in his playing days. He now looks like he MAY be 6-0. And that’s in shoes.

And every time a defender makes contact on a receiver 5+ yards down the field is a penalty. No interpretation necessary. And yet...

It isn't my contention that the penalty was an egregious call, just that it was on 4th down with the game coming down the stretch. It is like throwing up a half-court shot and wanting the ref to call a foul on the defender. You want a call, stop making it when you are in desperation mode.

It was a damn nice game. The refs got involved in who won and who lost. You can't get away from that fact, regardless of who won or lost. And that is a damn shame.

    &

That *hold* DOES N0T get called 99 times out of 100.

You have to squint your eyes and reeeeeeeealy stretch to see a penalty there.

Bump and run, within 5 yds of the LOS, next to zero change of route, balls completely uncatchable.....

Nevermind the context, the circumstances, the consequences...

The ONLY way to justify the call, was for the call back of the 2nd philly fumble, where the Eagle arguably made a football move.

    (...uh oh....here we go!). :D

Nope. If a PI was called it would have been a terrible call. Holding effects the play completely

It was third down and 8 yds to go for 1st down from the 15. If the call had been ignored, KC still kicks the FG, Philly gets the KO with 1 timeout and 1:50 left. Philly had two scores the entire 2nd half and their quickest scoring drive was 3min. and it included a 45 yd completion. Not a likely scenario for Philly to succeed.

There was no bump and run. The contact between the DB and the Receiver consisted of Bradberry grabbing the jersey with his right hand when the Receiver started to reverse direction, then he put his left hand on the Receivers left hip - then he trailed the receiver to the end zone. He slowed down the change of direction and the receivers speed. Whether he would have gotten to the ball or not is not knowable, plus it doesn't matter since it was holding. The foul occured because the DB was flat footed and was about to get totally smoked.

I appreciate the thorough analysis, but TBL is we do not see it the same (ie i see zero change of wr's progress), neither is going to change the other's mind, and most important...neither of us ought to care. It's in the past. I'll leave it to the pissed off philly fans to bitch, whine, moan n complain about it.

Can scarcely think of a more worthy fanbase.

You are correct. The real effect of the penalty was to virtually assure a Kansas City win by allowing them to eat all the time left in the game which they did well. Obviously, 1:50 would make for a very unlikely win for the eagles but it would be POSSIBLE. Certainly, there have been many such comebacks.
