According to MLB the Game 1 starting pitchers for Game 1 will be: Astros—Justin Verlander (18-4, 1.75 ERA) this postseason (1-0, 6.30 ERA, 14 K’s, 10 IP) Phillies—Zack Wheeler (12-7, 2.82 ERA) this postseason (1-1, 1.78 ERA, 25K’s/3 BB’s in 25 1/3 IP) Let’s PLAY BALL!
Ok, today the MLB post for tonight’s starting pitchers for Game 1: Verlander vs Nola I have no information about the change from previously announced Verlander vs Wheeler….. Let’s just play ball!!!
Verlander’s otherwise sterling resume is lacking one thing: A World Series Win. He has never won a game in the World Series…
And I should add his ERA is over 6 for the postseason (just 2 starts). His regular season ERA was 1.75!!! Framber Valdez has been better than Verlander in the postseason and so has Javier.
I started out as a Yankees fan back in the days of Mantle, Ford, Richardson, Kubek, Berra, etc. But when the Houston Colt 45's were formed I had a transistor radio that could pick up their games in central Florida via a strong station out of Shreveport, LA. Most of their games were at night and I would put the radio under my pillow and listen. Been following them ever since. Lots of lean years. I remember Cesar Cedeno being brought up as an 18 year old. My favorite pitcher was J.R. Richard, who was cut down in his prime by a stroke. Goooo Astros!!!
I just saw that he was taken off after the NLCS, dammit. Phillies make 2 changes to World Series roster
Good stuff @ocalaman — my Dad liked Whitey Ford and the Mick. He also liked Warren Spahn. But he always pulled for the Cardinals because he said they were closer to the south than any other team. Then the Braves moved to Atlanta. JR Richard was the first round pick of the Astros in the first year player’s draft (back then called the primary phase draft) of 1970. The Astros drafted me in the third round the same draft. I went to Chipola and the Astros drafted me again in 1971–back then if you had already been drafted once it was referred to as the secondary phase of the draft. The scout’s name that drafted me was Walt Matthews. He stayed his entire career with Houston and retired as their Head of Scouting.
Back in those days the White Sox were broadcast on WMAQ out of Chicago and it was a "clear channel" so that no other radio station had that fequency so at night when the "skip" rolled in you could get it in Fort Myers Beach where we often vacationed. Lots of good memories vacationing there back when it was not high end (we always rented a non airconditioned cottage every year) and not like it was before Ian. I even remember the attempt to integrate the beach and witnessed it back in the 60's. Being a kid from Chicago I wondered what was going on. I guess it was a southern thing back then, but not to say that there wasn't racism in Chicago. There was but not as blatant. I even remembered taking the ferry to Sanibel before the bridge was built. And back then the fishing was great.
