Nope. This isn't a story about Democrat candidates or turnout.

Republican leadership obviously knew about Gaetz. The story here is that they were willing to tolerate crime and immorality at Trump's behest.

And Trump appointed a clearly immoral and probably criminal scumbag to be the nations top law enforcement officer.......solely based on his willingness to lie for Trump and enable Trump to commit crimes.

    It's called kleptocracy.

I don't know how Trump voters, or anyone who voted for ANYONE in the party of criminal enabling, are able to look at themselves in a mirror.

Far more blame rests with the people who voted for Trump.

Florida's statutory rape law is codified in FS 794.05. Relevant part (I didn't include the definition of sexual activity, but it also includes oral and anal sex as well as contact with the genitalia.):

"794.05 Unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.—
    (1) A person 24 years of age or older who engages in sexual activity with a person 16 or 17 years of age commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084."

Second degree felonies (15 years max prison) generally have 3 year statutes of limitations. In this case that time is tolled until the victim(s) reached the age of 18. The time period didn't start running until their 18h birthdays. The statute would also be tolled for any time periods Gaetz was continuously out of the state. That obviously applies, but may be difficult to calculate.

We also don’t know the young ladies willingness to testify in court vs a closed hearing. Many layers of the onion.

You're term "loser crowd" is subjective. Although I suppose not in terms of winning the last election for POTUS.

Here's something that is NOT subjective; you are part of the criminal enabling crowd, including covering up for a pretty clear sexual predator. (In addition to the obvious sexual predator that you voted for, of course.)

    You must be so proud.

The state should prosecute these charges and if found guilty he should spend a lot of time in prison.

It's fun to see (some) Republican and Trump voters come out and pretend to be in favor of the law by saying Gaetz should be prosecuted.........

........now and only now that the political party criminal organization that they voted for can or will no longer attempt to cover up this grotesque lack of ethics and probable criminality.

Hypocrisy is always fun to behold. :)

You should open your left eye just a bit once in a while instead of just spewing partisan hackery, as it wasn’t MAGA who controlled the Justice Department that declined prosecution on this.

I know justice is supposed to be blind, but this guy should’ve been prosecuted and removed from Congress long before his AG nomination.

And yes, shame on Trump for nominating this scumbag to be chief retribution officer.

If you actually think voting for Trump some how magically elevated you to the "winner crowd" you are most definitely mistaken. The guy you supported won an election. FSU beat Florida in football last year. If some Nolie walked up to me after the game and said that made me part of the "loser crowd," I would have laughed hysterically in his or her face...more than I'm laughing at your post now, even.

    Nah.

We don't know the strength of the DoJ case, and why they didn't prosecute. It clearly seems they failed, but nobody has ever (to my knowledge) claimed that the Garland DoJ was even so much as remotely competent.

And in any event, declining or failing to prosecute this is certainly quite different from......... actively trying to cover it up. Or appointing this probable criminal to be the top law enforcement officer in the country solely based on his willingness to lie for and enable Trump's criminality.

And it's also quite different from the MAGAs actively shilling on behalf of this scumbag, when almost anyone not MAGA, such as myself, would have, and probably did, advocated prosecuting him.

So nice try, but very different. Poor decision making, or lack of competence is very different from criminal enabling, yes?

Unfortunately, not sure what DOJ could charge him with. The 17 year old was a Florida resident, I believe. They had sex in Florida. Stops a sex trafficking charge. The state of Florida could have hit him with a Statutory Rape charge (as well as Prostitution), but that isn't a federal issue. Best they could hope for would be an obstruction charge, but I don't know how strong that evidence would be without proving something underlying. Can the feds hit somebody with interstate (or international) prostitution with somebody over 18?

If Gaetz was funny and entertaining like Trump no one would care on the right. The fact he’s a pompous dick is the only reason righties will consider this an offense.
