Lina Khan is pretty impressive young woman. One of the first in along time that actually looked at how consolidation was driving up prices and put some guardrails on it. Big money will be glad to see her gone. Mergers will become the new extortion. Want your merger approved, make a contribution, give me good press, follow my direction, criticize my enemies...and the FTC will love you too On her way out, she has filed multiple suits to document all the work they had in process. What are the odds that any of these will be pursued under djt? FTC Chair Lina Khan Launches Flurry of Lawsuits Before Trump Takes Office Amid furious opposition from Republican members of the FTC ruling commission, it has launched a series of lawsuits in recent weeks that cover areas from agriculture to rental property. On Wednesday, the FTC filed a lawsuit against the John Deere tractor company, alleging that it has monopolized the repair of its tractors and "throttled the ability of farmers and independent repair providers to repair Deere equipment, leaving farmers wholly reliant upon Deere's network of authorized dealers for many key repairs." On Thursday, the FTC filed a lawsuit against the largest apartment landlord in the U.S., Greystar Real Estate Partners, accusing it of charging tenants hundreds of millions of dollars in undeclared fees. ........................................... Melissa Holyoak, a Republican member of the FTC's five-member ruling commission, issued a "dissenting statement" on the FTC's website in which she denounced the recent flurry of FTC activity against U.S corporations. "Four days before the Trump-Vance administration takes office, Chair Khan presided over a closed Commission meeting to consider and vote on multiple nonpublic law-enforcement matters," Holyoak wrote.
I’m sure pubs will decry this as government overreach or some such but we need more people like this trying to fight the growing wealth and power disparities that our system has allowed to perpetuate.
I find it hilarious a former "pub" is lionizing Lina Khan. These suits are like Biden saying the ERA is now the Law of the Land. They will be dismissed on Jan 22nd.
do you think consolidation is driving up prices and increasing income disparity? I see it in medicine, dentistry, surveying, engineering, accounting, and multiple other professional services. 1 or 2 grocers dominating an entire region and using that size to target any small operations. just because I'm a true pub doesn't mean I can't be legit concerned about income disparity and how consolidation is driving up prices and leaving people fewer choices, which hits the lower income the hardest. signed, never maga. give me a kasich or a romney or even a cheney, never a magat these suits have legitimate merit. if djt decides to dismiss them and piss on the people that got him elected, that is his choice
Yeah, I'm sure that you, as a "true pub", would be completely supportive of a Romney, McCain, or Kasich Admin that would also be about to fire Lina Kahn and dismiss the her cases as well. She would have been fired by any Republican incoming Admin even if it was a Lincoln Chafee Admin, back when he was a "pub".
