Traditional powers (OSU, Michigan, Penn State) are much less likely to have an issue as well and vote against them. The big dogs in that conference are probably gonna have an issue with an addition that threatens their status atop the big 10 in football (FSU, Clemson). Miami, FL will never do that. At least not on a consistent basis. I would also find it hilarious that Miami, Florida somehow made it in the Big 10 before Miami, Ohio literally in the backyard of the Big 10. That would probably sting whatever fanbase (Miami Ohio) they have quite a bit honestly.
I think the SEC Commissioner got the massage (from the team presidents) about FSU. Unlike FSU, at least the Florida Gators have stability heading to the future Florida Football: Win The War Since getting left of out the college football playoffs last season, FSU has made a ton of noise about their displeasure of being left out. They have blamed everyone from Kirk Herbstreit to their own conference and, along the way, have filed multiple lawsuits in their quest to get out of the ACC. The problem for FSU is that they have been so hell-bent on leaving that they have ignored the step of making sure they have a home once they leave. During SEC Media Days this week, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made it clear he hasn't been impressed with FSU's look at my routine. "Georgia was one of the best four teams (in the nation) and didn't get in (the Playoff). But you didn't see us jumping up and down and complaining and hanging national championship banners." Unlike FSU, at least the Florida Gators have stability heading to the future
Looks like FSU and Clemson are staying put, at least for another year. Not a shock. The buyout is too large to begin with, and there in little/no interest from the B1G or SEC. And doubtful these schools will win their lawsuit.
This is my shocked face. Long term it might be good news for them though if true, it gives the P2.5 time to try and figure out how to get them in in a way that actually makes sense economically and not just strategically.
ACC commissioner cracked the whip today saying that he would fight to keep these two clown schools in the ACC. My hope FSU goes near bankrupt in lawyer fees and payments.
As a state school, whatever money FSU pisses away, will eventually come out of our (FL Tax payers') pockets. Ain't no 'bankruptcy' for them. Just how fat a deficit tab are they going to stick us with.
I hope they settle, get out of the ACC...and languish homeless for a couple decades, having to fill their schedule with crap draw schools. ...and I really hope, as always...that we drop them from our schedule.
I saw what was kind of a funny commentary from 2 of the FSU talking heads. They couldn't understand why the ACC commissioner was being so disrespectful of their 2 top programs. I'm not sure why they're acting surprised. The ACC has no other option than to fight them at all costs because without FSU and Clemson, the ACC has very little value as a conference. I really don't think they're going to let them out without paying the full buyout, or pretty darn close to it. FSU and Clemson are really stuck without an offer from the SEC or Big-10. I still think the FSU lawsuit quietly disappears.

I know they won't go bankrupt. I can dream though, right? At the moment FSU is a pariah in their own conference. Although they have been in the ACC for some thirty years, they are still looked on as a newbies. Clemson is a charter member. But the blue bloods at UNC,UVA and Duke look down their collective noses at both of them. Clemson is considered a cow college and FSU are a bunch of thugs..Don't know how this is going to play out. But the worst possible outcome for the Noles will be just fine with me.
Their issue is that they think because we went undefeated we are really good in football and we should get the same money as UF, OSU, Bama, Mich etc. But what they don't realize is your record is one of the least prized characteristics of a program. Most prized is number of viewers and TV ratings and right now the only team left that moves that needle is Notre Dame.
I seem to remember stories about them being in a pretty deep financial hole after the Taggart fiasco/buyout. In the here and now, I assume that they wouldn't be looking for a new meal ticket if the old one was sufficient to their needs. Imagine being stuck in a conference that hates you after suing them - and then realizing no one else is interested. It couldn't happen to a more deserving institution.
Cynical me says Tally politicians will always bail them out. My bigger worry is that one or more of the elected asshats will make a back room deal and get them into the SEC. I hope the Gators in Tallahassee are actively blocking that somehow.
Do politicians in Tally have sway over the SEC? I don't think so. At best they could strongarm UF into endorsing FSU candidacy. But UF is one of 16 now in the SEC, i.e. 15/16 of the SEC is outside of Florida. That won't get FSU very far.
It's not unreasonable for FSU (and Clemson) to believe their value is comparable to an average SEC or B1G program. Their problem is like you said at the end, they don't move the needle enough that the SEC or B1G would automatically invite them, that's the part those schools haven't accepted yet.
So to clarify, fsu sued the ACC to get out of their contract without having another place to go, presumably thinking other "better" conferences would be in touch to let them know they are welcome IF they are released by the ACC. Now, no other conference of prestige is interested other than lip service and the ACC and its member schools are not, and probably privately, do not want fsu in the conference either. Is that close?
