In order for us to finish objectively better we need to have a great season and they a poor one where they lose some of their commits and magically, we turn some very good OL/DL prospects our way. Having a better season than them is not a tall order but landing some DL on our board and flipping some pretty good OL might be.
They’re a bad team that will not have a better season than us, a better recruiting class than us, and they’re gonna get pummeled in the Swamp. Your infatuation with them is weird.
GatorsTerritory Warchant In four cycles we have poorly recruited OL. Well, we hope it turns out 2020 was a good class because frankly it has to be for obvious reasons. In their second cycle fsu's staff has 5 quality OL committed. What's our problem? We had to take three DL out of the portal(fourth cycle). fsu has five DL committed. I don't care if they sign them or not, I care that our staff is not getting commitments. And the thing about the portal is that we didn't know in 2018 that the NCAA would soon change their rules. Wouldn't it be better if we were good at HS recruiting- as we should be- like georgia, alabama, lsu and fsu but not be dependent on the portal? I'm not arguing that the portal has saved us, it has. But anyone that doesn't see it as an incredible stroke of luck for our staff is not being honest. How long had the NCAA held the rule that a player need to sit out a year? Who saw the change coming? Imagine where the program would be if the NCAA had not fortuitously changed that rule. Call me weird but I think it's more odd that some of us accept mediocrity. I expect our HC to be infatuated with georgia and fsu. Don't you?
Yes, would like better HS classes but Portal is here to stay. I suspect most schools are going to save spots for the Portal. I suspect by the end of the year we will be happy with the one year rent a DT plan. Allows Watson, Thomas etc to develope.
I don't accept mediocrity. I certainly don't want my coach to be infatuated with other teams. I want my HC to worry about his team. The hell to others. The only time the HC should think of the other team is when we he's getting ready to play them that week. Otherwise, those teams will live rent free in the HC's head if he's infatuated with them.
When was the OBC infatuated with UGA, UT, FSU or any other SEC team? He made fun of them. Don't confused ridiculing the opponents to infatuation.
You have one team on that list that does not remotely match up with the others this year and any of the last 5 years.
Which players have we been so fortunate to get help from because of the NCAA rule change? Everyone has either sat a year, been eligible because of graduation, or granted an exemption.
"infatuation"? Did I use that word? I want a coach that is determined to outdo our competition. That was Spurrier. No doubt fsu doesn't belong in that sense and hopefully this year is an aberration. I do expect a couple of each OL/DL to move on because they will have a chance to join programs not in such a deep rebuild mode. No doubt fsu doesn't belong in that sense and hopefully this year is an aberration. I do expect a couple of each OL/DL to move on because they will have a chance to join programs not in such a deep rebuild mode. No doubt but Spurrier played against Tenn, georgia, fsu. He wanted to beat them as much when a coach at UF. I think the exemption is key. The NCAA is granting them now and before the rule change almost never. Boateng, Bowman, Blades, Shorter seem like undergrads that were granted "immediate". Did Lingard have to sit or was it his injury? Can't remember. I do wonder if the rule change has had any impact on numbers of grad transfers. Seems like there are more now but maybe it seems so only in our case where we actually needed the big DL we've landed. Before I suppose it's possible we just didn't need them so we weren't taking the transfers.
Grad transfers could always play immediately, thats been around for many years. How would the rule change impact them. Of all the guys you listed only Shorter has had any impact whatsoever.....so why do you think the program would have been in a different place without this immediate eligibility rule change. Fyi, Blades is a grad too.
I must have read this incorrectly, "I expect our HC to be infatuated with georgia and fsu. Don't you?"
All you dudes thinking excitement around FSU was going to drop like a rock after they looked like shit this year are gonna be eating some crow on signing day. All recruits needed was a sign that things were looking up, and they got it tonight
Not saying they are gonna be great, but they are not the same team as the last 2 years. Down 18 late they would have folded. The blind optimism by some in here that their class is gonna fall apart is misguided...that's all I'm saying.
