Watched some of their talk shows on YouTube. Apparently, they are quite content with the second half showing against Louisville and think it was a promising sign. Another moral victory!
Very few teams are 0-4. I don't believe he inherited a great roster. But he inherited lifelong football players and he presumably has some decent coaches. Spurrier would not be winless. Something is missing. If it's just bad luck it's unlikely it would continue because it's rare an otherwise good teams is that unlucky. It really wouldn't sit well with me if he were our coach said that. They have a recruiting class so far above their on field results that it makes one wonder how they are doing that, the right way.
I really think they should have the ability to win some of these games, regardless of how bad they have looked and who they have lost to, but the outlook of players and how they play for the coach will vary significantly from the time they start out 0-0 and playing under the bright lights against ND versus being 0-4 and playing in a meaningless game against Syracuse and then UMass. All shame is gone by that point and then pursuits other than football take a front seat.
Die, Don't want to sound like a politician but I agree with you that something ELSE is contributing to this precipitous drop at FSU. Jimbo took a powder, I personally think he left the closet a bit empty. I ain't no "hole" expert but it seems like FSU is fast going the UT route. First the FSU president was vocal about having a "better rounded" athletic department / less emphasis on Football. Money, Money Money, as in FSU ain't got none. Facilities are so so Also think that the PLAYERS may not have been real happy with the locals treatment of Taggert. Read into that what you will. And of course the RUSH to get back on top ..........way too fast. They have essentially bankrupted themselves with their own impatience and of course the multiple buy-outs. And the game has really changed. I don't know how well they have done in the transfer portal but from the results on the field it can't be too good.
The cancer started under Jimbo. When that NYT investigation uncovered the colossally bad academic improprieties that we’re going on it wasn’t just the program or even the athletic department that looked bad. All that stink was coming from every level from within the school. As bad as Taggart was, he never stood a chance. And Norvell is just Butch Jones 2.0 to me. I believe the coaching trail left behind will rival that of Tennessee before they become relevant again.
I disagree here. From a recruiting perspective, the heat on Willie was much hotter than the heat on Mike and the results were better under Willie. Surely that makes a recruit think about why! It doesn’t look even from 30,000 feet. Maybe racism wasn’t involved but the SWAC alumni did what they had to do to get rid of Willie and but they don’t seem to feel that same way now despite far worse results (and no upward trend).
They need a floor raiser. They and Miami will keep thinking they need to go "big" on their next hire but the splash/home run hire is too risky. Do what Florida had to do and get a guy who at worst, in Mullen, would make the program at the very WORST respectable again. FSU fans say they wouldn't mind Gus Malzhan and I think that would be a good fit too.
Marotti was under urban. He was the good one. But we did seem to get a lot of injuries then too. Dillman was muschamp’s ACL wrecker. mcawful had mike Kent…as well as the employees at Orion fitness. What a complete disaster from top down.
Rather him go waste at fsu than uga. but how was this guy in an ambulance at 9pm and then a recruiting trip at 9 am?
Georgia recruiting is so elite they actually budget the ambulance company and had the driver drive directly to Athens where Kirby healed Hunters leg by giving him a haircut.
Jerry Schmidt was the UF S&C coach that Bob Stoops took with him to Oklahoma. Mickey was taken by Urban to Ohio State. Both were huge losses for UF at that time.
