FSU getting slapped on the wrist for not playing nice with the powers that be in the college football world.
Well, I hope they don't fire Norvell and bring home Neon Deion Prime Time Cool with the Sunglasses Sanders.
So let me get this straight. They cheated to beat up the scrub teams in their league, only to get demolished by 60 to the only real team they faced? Freaking pathetic and embarrassing clowns!
More likely that Norvell leaves for Bama (and I don’t think that’s likely either) than Norvell getting fired.
Depends on how much Norvell himself was involved in the violations. Of course we all know that head coaches know nothing about violations, whether in college or pros. E.g., Harbaugh knew nothing about his staff stealing signals. Sean Payton knew nothing about bounties paid at New Orleans, while he had to sit out a year for it. At least Charley Pell owned up. He lamented cheating when there was really no need to cheat. It was just the thing to do.
From the article: Atkins has been suspended for next season’s first three games and received a two-year show cause penalty. He has led the massive, successful overhaul of FSU’s offensive line and is regarded as a rising star in the profession and future head coaching candidate. I think they mean was regarded.
History tells us that coaches only get fired for violations of this nature when the schools want to get rid of them anyway and not pay their buyouts (Freeze, Pruitt) or the violations are so bad that the school has no choice in the matter (Pell). And in the second case, a show-cause would effectively prevent Alabama from hiring Norvell outright. But I doubt either scenario applies to Norvell. If he goes to Bama, it’s because Bama lured him away.
Another interesting scenario you bring up. Sanders has, ostensibly, forsaken his alma mater because they would not even give him an interview when the position last opened. Would he consider if they came crawling back like Billy Madison?
I'm sure they were somehow diverting Florida tax payer's money to fund NIL deals just like they got the stadium renovations done through tax payer money. FSU does not have the deep pockets to continue in the NIL arms race without cheating or using Florida tax payer money.
One of the penalties is that FSU must “disassociate from the collective” for one year. I can’t tell whether this is a big deal or not. Apparently, it won’t stop the collective from cutting NIL deals with players, but when I dug a bit I found some outlets are treating it like it’s a costly blow. Anyone have any insight on the likely impact?
For Bama, the Washington coach has a far better resume than Norvell. Plus, which one's name has the better anagram? Kalen DeBoer: Leaked Boner Mike Norvell: Killer Venom
He meant to say: we take our cheating culture seriously and want to make sure we close any loopholes that could get us caught.
