Wonder why FSU had patience with Norvell yet we want to run Napier out after year 1/2.?

Seriously, this one again? Norvell turned around things in his third season. That’s where we are. If Norvell had had a third losing season in 2022, then he would have been out on his ass. If Napier achieves a winning season in 2024, then he, too, will probably earn some grace. There’s patience and there’s the Patience of Job. I have the first, not the second. A third losing season is unacceptable, and I won’t accept it. Spoiler alert: neither will the people who make the call on Napier’s future.

And what is Year 1/2? We are entering Year 3.

Because we went through the Wille error and actually saw a team that did not look like a DIII JV team. In ‘21, FSU started to lose close and we saw improvement. That is something we never saw under Willie.

We had people wanting Napiers head in years 1 and 2 . I’m pretty aware we are going in to year 3, but thx for reminding me!

Well, I can only speak for self, and since you were addressing me, I was not calling for Napier’s head then. And I’m not now. I absolutely think he should get a third year to prove himself, and I’ll be as pleased as any Gator if he does. What I have been doing (and will continue to do) is push back on the silly notion that Napier should or will get a fourth season even if it’s still amateur hour in his third. If he does not show remarkable improvement next season, then, yes, he should be gone. Three years is enough time to see if his “process” works. Right now, I’m not optimistic.

Well UF was close in many of our losses as well which suggests a transfer portal infusion, assistant coaching changes as well as a good recruiting class provides the glass half full crowd, such as myself, hope.

Let’s define “rebuild.” Does anyone think they thought it would take five years to sniff another winning season? If you say yes, I won’t believe you.

If necessary. The first two seasons were pretty much break-even. The key is to establish a program with multi-year sustainability.

If that takes 5 years then the UF admin and Bullgators seem to be willing to wait. Sustained success is the goal. Improvement is the key.

Here is Napier's contract buyouts. No one is probably going to be willing to touch that until after year 5. If then.

Here's How Much Florida Would Have To Pay Billy Napier If He's Fired | In All Kinds of Weather.

The Bullgators do not seem willing to buy out the contract so we will roll until Napier proves that he can or cannot sustain a winning program. That is probably around 5 years.

But I am not sure the Bullgators are willing to buy out even 2 years of the contract.

That is over 13 MILLION dollars!

I hope that you have deep pockets because the Bullgators are probably not going to be willing to front that much money!

To me, one of the biggest issues with Mullen, McElwain, and Muschamp were their inabilities to adapt. We're starting at a lower point (in my opinion), if we can see growth, I'm less concerned with the record. I believe our over/under was 5 wins this year; that number came out before the injuries to Carroll and Boone. Our defense was serviceable before James got hurt. I don't think 5 wins under the circumstances was an egregious year for the staff in terms of W/L totals given injuries they had to face. We certainly don't have the depth to be able to say "injuries happen, next man up." Granted, there were plenty of head scratchers throughout the season that had nothing to do with personnel. But having better depth would have likely masked some of that. I don't care if it takes 7 years or more, I want to see mistakes get addressed and growth. If we can't get the top end talent that Georgia or Bama gets, so be it. But I'd like to at least do more with what we can get. I'm very interested to see how next season goes, and to the point about win total over/under, really curious to see what number we get. Having a starting QB back is a HUGE advantage, hopefully we can have a serviceable line to go with that, but we'll be sufficient with the rest of the pieces offensively to be able to show improvement (regardless of how we feel about the OC).

I completely understand the side that has less patience, and it's a 3-years-or-else mentality; I just feel like each of the previous three coaches showed us enough of who they were to make it unquestionable that they had to go (not always in 3 years, of course). I'll be more patient than most on here with the upcoming 3rd year, but I still enjoy the jokes where they are able to be made. :) I believe that "we'll know it when we see it" will apply if the 3rd year doesn't go so well. But give us a decent OL, and I think people will be pleasantly surprised with next season. And recruiting and portal acquisitions are always a means to buy patience for coaches. Mertz was an outstanding get (most of us didn't see it coming); I'm eager to see how things start off next year.

I hate these kind of posts.

In your day to you do absolutely nothing but talk about the Gators?

When my accountant tells me to give him all my expenses I don’t say “meh, the Gators have their own problems”.

The OP poses an interesting question and one that is answerable without or without us being allowed to “have our own problems” and frankly I enjoy FSU’s problems, quite a bit!

I would love to see them get stomped even though it will be because “they can’t get up for it”, a problem Jameis Winston is having about now. Lol

Just with a back of the envelope extremely rough calculation the sale of season tickets (including booster fees) possibly generates $100M or so per year. A 10% drop in that revenue due to cancellation would be be a third of the current coach's buyout today. At some point, it becomes a business decision to cut ties with a losing investment. I don't think that UF will wait 5 years to produce wins while potentially risking $10's of millions of dollars in revenue if they don't move on from a bad investment.

This is awesome. Some of the same folks would not want to bother with joking about them when we are significantly better than them because "we're above that." There ends up never being a good time to have a laugh at them. I say never miss an opportunity, and I would hope their fans do the same. We take this stuff too seriously.

FSU is talking about joining the Big 10 after the season.

Then, they can beat up Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State, plus any other teams they play in 30 degree weather.

Also, they can watch Clemson get in the CFP and remember it could have been them.
