The ACC has zero incentive now that they pretty effectively blocked the threatened break-up. It took real idiots to telegraph their move like they did and the ACC thanks the Holes very much. That bunch of whiny toddlers laying in the floor screaming and when nothing happens . . . scream louder and longer. LOL!
Why, neither has a better option. Plus, they're already on the hook for the agreement that they signed. Those two schools are the only reason the ACC has been relevant in football for years. What would the incentive be to give them more money than the rest get when in reality fsu and Clemson don't have a leg to stand on in a legally agreed to contract with the conference? Actually, Clemson has been down for a few years and really isn't that attractive a brand right now, and fsu just now had a good season, primarily because they're in the ACC, which is the only reason they are remotely attractive on a national scale.
Yea, conference leadership is terrible now at the ACC -- their expansion added no value. Nobody cares about Stanford, Cal and SMU football or hoops. It also makes no sense for non revenue generating sports to have to travel across the country for competitions. I like the SEC footprint, it makes sense -- I even like having vandy in the conference, every now and then you need an "easy" game (not the case for the gators though...) It would be interesting to the "value" of the panhandle market, and how what is the value of a FSU? If I'm the SEC - UNC is much sexier for sure, get that NC market -- UNC thinks their academically superior though, and I think prefer the big 10. Notre Damn as well would go big 10 over SEC.
Respectfully, this is not a myth. You must have misunderstood my post. I know why they weren’t selected- it is because they weren’t one of the 4 best teams, which not having JT was a big factor (but even if they did, I still don’t think they would be). Decades ago (well before Tebow) FSU could have joined the SEC but declined. One of the statements from Admin was they wanted to remain in the ACC, especially because of their basketball program. If FSU was currently in the SEC and 13-0, they would have been a shoe in. The real reason they didn’t want to join is because being in the ACC was an easier road to the NC game.
No argument there, Wes. Lots of folks, particularly outside of Tallahassee, are feeling butthurt because of the polls, where IMO, it was because Travis' absence. They had a so-so win against us and our vaunted defense, then hardly dominated a good Louisville team. Their offensive yardage was less than have their seasonal average when Travis was healthy. And yes, if Tebow was out for the year, I have no doubt we would have been nailed for it, as our record was the same as Texas and Michigan...
I was around when that took place. They myth is that FSU wanted an easy path to the MNC, and if they played in the SEC, they never would have had a shot at it, yada yada. Yet they had an 8-5-1 against Spurrier's Gators. I also remember at least four excuses why they prevailed... Spurrier's GAtors had a respectable 28-21-1 (.570) record against teams with 3 or fewer losses/ties, but Bowden's Noles had a 33-14-1 (.698) record during that span.
That isn’t a myth. Agree - they had a winning record against UF back then, no doubt. Question is, could they have had the same overall record playing the SEC gauntlet of a schedule. I guess we just disagree. You are in a serious minority with your opinion, that’s for sure (except on Warchant).
Right?!?! Obviously they didn't talk to their lawyers before they opened their pie holes. If they wanted to escape the contract on some legal grounds, whining about how someone else makes more money is not the way to do it. Either they are really, really dumb, or they are just posturing for the media in hopes they can squeeze more money out of the ACC.
I just saw a teaser on the news that said that FSU may be trying to cut ties with the ACC. If that were to happen, what conference do you think they would join?
Why the hail want to give the cheating azz school $30 million more dollars a year to make our lives misery? I wonder if The B1G want them? Lol... maybe no one wants them.
If they get out of the ACC, Clemson would follow suit, and the SEC would probably take them both. There wouldn't be any obstacles to them joining.
NO HALF ASS U to the SEC! They had their chance before and the Gators even tried to help them get in the SEC But Bowden said NO ! He preferred the ACC because he said it would be easier to win a championship than being a member of the SEC! So let the Noles live with their Bowden decision!
