Freshmen Settle In - Florida Gators I like this from a guard (Aberdeen): "Big Sig" looks pretty solid at 6'10" 235.
“No team plays thirteen guys. That’s just the reality. Every Gator understands that.” But my goodness, there is a lot of talent on this team. If we can learn to play together we will be in the mix.
The fact that the NCAA has not adopted a reasonable redshirt rule for basketball is an example of its total incompetence. The NCAA football redshirt rule allows the player to play in 4 games and still get the benefit of a redshirt year. That’s about a 3rd of the games. Basketball should have a 10 game redshirt rule. That way kids can play when others are injured or otherwise can’t play, and the kids can still redshirt. The German kid almost certainly would redshirt. Aberdeen might redshirt. It is unfair to have a 13 scholarship rule and not have a companion redshirt rule. There has been a redshirt rule in the works for a while without action being taken on it.
Speaking of moving in. Do they think they can put the football players in a nice new apartment setting and other athletes/teams will be happy? What is AD going to do here? Pay for everyone to live off campus rather than dorms? Speed up the new athletic dorm construction across from Hume?
The hoopsters have had the finest practice facility in America for the longest time. I can't say they've been overlooked.
I believe there's only been a portion of the football team that has been able to move in. The department only gets access to a portion of the apartments as they come on line.
Hoops should start July 1. July is so BORING. Especially this year as I have no interest in rewatching NEITHER last year's bball OR fball games.
I'm just excited about the infusion of new players and what appears to be significant talent upgrades ..... and we have some real height for once. I'm excited to see Jit get on the court, he was making strides before the injury. It's a new coach and a new Era, with some nice experience returning, high profile transfers. and some nice young ones coming on board. I feel like the future will be bright and UF basketball will be more competitive and improved. I see the tournament as being more certain and UF returning to a top 4 position in the SEC, alot to look forward to!
Yep. It looks like the pieces are in place. If we can have a good season, be competitive for the SEC championship, and make the NCAAT, CTG will be in a great position to build us back to where we want to be on a perennial basis. The U of F will need to step up to the NIL plate and ensure that it happens. That's the new reality. Good coaching alone won't sustain it.
A lot more optimism for this upcoming season on the basketball front than the football front. I hope y’all are right.
We will have a good team. Got size inside and on the wings. If we shoot well does not have to be 40% from 3 but at least 35-38% 78% from foul line and rebound better we can make some noise in SEC and the dance. We are better at every position.
I require more basketball news. This is not just a desire; it's a requirement. Else, I may actually die. When does basketball practice officially begin?
Well, as long as you aren't palming, I don't think there is anything wrong. Oh, who am I kidding. Palm away!
Check out EF's article on recruiting today ...........cool stuff. I'm getting more and more excited about UF's basketball future. Coach Golden seems to be a hot commodity on the recruiting trail, relentless and showing moxie..........a young Billy D perhaps when it comes to recruiting??
