Ok thank you. In Manhattan ? Is that a state or federal statute? I’m not an attorney and my courtroom experience has been civil litigation, so I admittedly have limited knowledge of criminal proceedings.

 

How does anyone have any idea if an arrest is warranted or not? I haven’t seen the charge or seen any evidence. Maybe it’s a slam dunk case or maybe it’s a DA trying to overreach. Who knows right now?

It’s obviously warranted. His associate was already convicted and sentenced. The only question if it’s just the Stormy Daniels case is why it took so long? And why not the fraud charges from the Weisselberg case? If they are to go this route, I’d hope it’s because they also plan other charges. For falsely claiming the reimbursement to Cohen for Stormy's payoff as a legal expense on his NY tax returns in violation of NY law and that it was done to conceal an underlying violation of Federal campaign laws. This later part elevates what would normally be a misdemeanor to a felony. He would be prosecuted in NY state court.

This is a good example of the pathology of Trump types. He has enough money to make this hush payment without any illegality. Stormy gone, campaign still a go. But they CAN NOT resist being crooks. At every step, they will steal everything not nailed down, and count on some combo of apathy/lawyer games/corruption connections/etc to leave it all unchecked.

Spot on. Trump could easily have afforded the $130K, but it wasn't good enough just to pay her and make her go away, he had to commit tax fraud to save some money.

Several years ago I represented a client in connection with a murder case, his second murder actually. He was wearing his favorite shirt, with a distinctive print, at the time of the murder. The victim was stabbed to death and, because there was a struggle, it got a bit messy. Not wanting to part with his favorite shirt, he had it dry cleaned, apparently not realizing that dry cleaning is not the same as washing. He was developed as a suspect based on a tentative ID from a low resolution surveillance video from a convenience store where the victim's credit card was used. He was wearing the shirt in the video. There's bad luck and then there's really bad luck. When the police went to question my guy, he had just picked up the shirt from the dry cleaners and it was hanging in his car. The shirt was seized and DNA analysis of the shirt found multiple locations of the presence of the victim's DNA from his blood. Had he simply burned his favorite shirt, it's extremely unlikely there would have been enough evidence to convict.

Trump saving money is my guy's favorite shirt.

 

The only disagreement I have here is that the MAGA folks don’t believe, can’t believe, that the charges — any charges— are accurate. They believe only that the prosecutions are persecutions and will react accordingly.
