Not smart enough to understand the long term implications of this but it doesn't sound good for Google. It seems like this will result in losses of billions annually from the google revenue stream

Google Loses App Store Antitrust Suit Against Fortnite Creators (businessinsider.com)

A jury on Monday sided with Fortnite developer Epic Games, finding that the tech giant held a monopoly in its Google Play Store for Android operating systems, limiting the reach of competitors' apps and charging high fees for processing in-app purchases.

They deliberated for less than four hours, The New York Times reported, before ultimately affirming Epic Games' argument in each of the 11 separate questions before them, determining that Google had acted anticompetitively in all 11.

Epic initially filed the lawsuit after its popular game, Fortnite, was banned from the Play Store after Epic allowed users to buy in-game features from the game developer directly, circumventing Google's 15 to 30% fees on in-app purchases.

I think that breaking up monopolies like apple and google is always for the good. Don’t know how but things will be better because of this.

The fact that there is apple and google doing the same thing seems to suggest it’s not a monopoly. Both have large markets.

This part is interesting. I makes me wonder if this ruling could even bolster the conservative arguments that social media platforms should be regulated to avoid a bias against conservative speech.

A duopoly is more accurate. They were taxing software developers at a 30% commission for all app sales. If a software developer tried directly selling to their subscribers to circumvent Google or Apple, the app would get the boot.

There are infinite amount of products to call, text, play games and surf the net. Smart phones are only a small part of your options. No way they are a Monopoly in my opinion. Same with social media.

Apple and Google control 95% of the app store market share outside of China. I'm sure software developers love chasing that 5% market share for subscribers...
