Wolfson said outside court that he intends to file a second felony DUI charge against Ruggs related to the injuries to Kilgo-Washington. Bonaventure noted the couple have a 3-year-old daughter together.

The district attorney said he might also file a weapon charge against Ruggs related to possessing a gun while under the influence of alcohol. Ruggs had a loaded gun in the car at the time of the crash.

Bauman said Ruggs was uncooperative with police and medical workers, and his blood alcohol level taken within the required two hours after the crash was 0.161%. Police said previously in a statement that Ruggs "showed signs of impairment."

Ruggs drove 156 mph seconds before fatal crash

"This is particularly tragic," the prosecutor told the judge. He said that since 2013, the NFL Players Association has contracted with rideshare services to provide free transportation to members "specifically to prevent tragedies such as this."

No doubt, very sad news. Should never happen.

Putting a name, a face and the context of her family's suffering makes me feel a lot less sympathetic for Ruggs.

I think a first DUI should get mandatory jail time. But like 30 days, just to make them think about it. You can escalate the 2nd and 3rd offenses and take the drivers license away (permanently) for habitual offenders.

But what gets me is those who get off like that even when they take a life or drive egregiously drunk, or egregiously fast. It’s sick. No, it’s not capital murder. But it is a disregard for life. Sentences for taking a life should always be measured in years, not days. 2-10 years seems about right for negligent type homicide (rather than violent homicide, which should be 20-life). So if Nevada has a mandatory 2-10 years for DUI fatality, that sounds like a good law. I’m guessing it’s in place because they probably see a lot of it in Vegas, sadly.

I'm not trying to defend drunk driving but if everyone gets mandatory jail time for having any impairment then we need to do away with alcohol at bars, restaurants, sporting events etc or regulate it way more strictly. Sure its possible to have one drink and then wait an hour for the body to process it but that isn't what happens.

The car went almost 2 football fields after impact, that is insane. It’s incredible how much force was involved here because of the speed. Very sad.

It’s also possible to make arrangements before deciding to drink. My wife and I don’t drink and drive, period. And we don’t get in a car with some who’s been drinking, yes even one drink. If we go somewhere with a group, we pick a dd beforehand and they don’t drink. If we’re going out partying and everyone wants to drink, we make arrangements with a shuttle, taxi, uber, whatever. Just dinner, one of us just has water or a coke, it’s not that hard. If you’re single and going by yourself, have a coke, or take an uber. I still do that too. I drive a lot (probably 90% of the time), because I’m not gonna fight about it, or make it a big deal. On the occasion that I just want to drink one night, usually one or more in my party will jump at the chance to volunteer, because I’ve done it for them dozens of times.

Restaurants, bars, and sporting events serving alcohol is absolutely zero excuse for someone to drink and drive. Especially someone with ruggs resources. I have waaaaay less resources than he does, but I figure it out, every single time. Saying alcohol should be made less available is just stupid. People should just make better decisions. Stiffer consequences would certainly help with that.

He's 22 and I bet you are older and wiser.

Not making excuses. There is no excuse for this kind of idiotic behaviour.

More than anything - having the right parenting and role models around you while growing up helps mitigate the dumb behaviour that goes on with young people - young adults.

You hope that when someone finally "figures it out" - they get there leaving as little carnage as possible.

Obviously no matter what - stupid behaviour still happens and people get hurt. And dogs...:(

(CNN)The family of Tina O. Tintor, who died after her car was rear-ended by Las Vegas Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III, released a statement Thursday on her death.

Tintor's family attorney, Farhan Naqvi, said in a statement on their behalf that "Tina's tragic loss has devastated her family beyond a grief they could ever comprehend."
"Family was everything to Tina, and she was the light of her parents' life. Tina lived in Las Vegas since she was a baby," the statement said. "She loved her 3-year-old Golden Retriever, Max, who passed alongside her Tuesday morning."

You and your wife are responsible. Great. That will mean a lot when a drunk kid or adult hits you or your DD head on. You can talk about responsibility or you can accept that it's completely unregulated and tempting fate to sell alcohol at establishments where 90 plus percent of people who drink are driving to and from the establishment. What are the logistical requirements to even have enough services to provide travel to and from large scale events like concerts and sporting events?

I assume you are in favor of legalizing all recreational drugs then too?

I believe the #1 cause off accidents/fatalities now is distracted driving. Sure we’ve made laws around using phones but people can still own and even operate phones while driving in most cases (because they are generally lenient laws). We don’t say “ban radios, phones, ACs/Heaters, window controls” etc. to protect people from themselves.

We acknowledge that when people step out the door they take certain risks and need to mitigate it on their own as much as possible. We trust that people do it on their own, usually motivated by fear of consequences (emotional/physical/legal pain, or death). But one of those risks is that you could win the unlucky lottery and get plowed into by a runaway 18 wheeler or a drunk driver. Sometimes life is just unlucky for the victims.

In any case we tried prohibition and it basically supercharged underground crime and murders and violent crime spiked, while the people that wanted alcohol still got it. If drinks are banned at restaurants/bars people will just get sloshed before they go out, or bring drinks with them anyway.

[QUOTE= . You wonder if Ruggs was "just a couple minutes from home" and made an incredibly poor decision.

When you drive 150+ mph, most destinations are just a couple minutes away.....

If I represented Tina in court I would go after Ruggs yes but I wouldn't stop there. I would be calling the car manufacturer too. I do not want my family driving compact cars on the same road with other cars that have the ability of traveling speeds greater than 150 mph. Think about it?

I feel for the parents of Henry’s that my wife had met in Alabama at a distribution facility for the company she worked for. Very kind, considerate and positive people. This has had a sobering effect on the whole family. From a small town in Alabama to Tuscaloosa and the bright lights, to sin city. When the NFL, let the Raiders go there made me think, what kind of problems will they have that no other team will have. Grambling, prostitution and a place where you believe you can do what you want. What could go wrong? Now it has come to roost! What is next for the Raiders?

It's been my experience that the majority of Corvette drivers don't even go the speed limit - for some reason. Slowest damn drivers on the road!!! o_O

Ok, great so these drivers do not need 495 HP in a car that goes 0-60 in 2.9 seconds with a top end of 194 mph.

Indeed. Perhaps one of the craziest aspects of this case, is that a dude in a flimsy fiber glass corvette, with GF in tow, operating his vehicle like a guided missile, strikes a larger object, sends if flying 570 feet, killing its driver and her dog....

...but the guy in the 'vette and his GF, appear to have been ok (other than the severe legal consequences facing the driver).

Both could have easily died and /or been permanently maimed, paralyzed, crippled, lost limbs, knocked unconscious, rendered comatose, or perm vegetative state...

    That's amazing.

...and when he goes to ask for leniency, I suspect the judge may very well point to that and say:

"...seems to me, you already got your leniency."
