My point is he is an admitted bigot. He is anti-free thought. He has written at length against tenure and the desire to destroy it and has previously put one school on the path of ruin.

If that makes him an honest politician, then fine. Go back to being a scumbag politician. He has no business as the president of a pre-school, let alone the University of Florida.

I did not know he admitted to being a bigot. I'd like to know more. Can you provide that info? How do you know he is anti-free thought? I am a full tenured prof & I am against tenure....it is very destructive & few focus on that aspect. There is far, far, more to it than the "reward" like the hunger games.

So how is his name pronounced? Sass or Sass-ee?

Don't Sass me because I asked that question. And don't get Sassy with me, either.

do you think he may be second guessing his decision and trying to find a way out before he gets engaged?

Tenure seems quite important to me. Professors need to be able to research and teach about controversial topics and test out controversial (and even unpopular) theories. Without tenure, how will we ensure that happens? How many will be willing to risk their livelihoods?

That is very weird. Is he just trying to collect a paycheck at a do-nothing government job?

I have had so many discussion with colleagues trying to guess what his thinking is. We have not come up with a satisfying answer.

That is truly bizarre. The obvious expectation is that he'd want to make people feel good that he was named president, that he'd want to build a team to support him if he's planning changes or to assure folks he's not going to do anything radical. But you'd think he feel like he needed support among university staff, faculty and students.
    Unless, of course:
He's not actually planning to do anything and doesn't care what they think.
He's planning something significant and simply does care or need their support.

So here is what we do know - he brought in about 8-12 people from his old staff from his days as a politician. Those people have been around, asking questions, asking for data, poking around, but still hanging largely in the background. He is PROBABLY planning something - but is being as quiet as a mouse about it.

Sasse doesn’t know much about his real views if he has any at all. What we do know about his views is they’re like a fart in a cyclone.

Given this, one wonders if announcements and changes will happen over relatively quiet period like summer semester.
