I will keep Mrs. Sasse in my prayers. I never liked the hire of BS. I'd like to see a native Floridian who will give our great Florida high school students a better chance of becoming students at our great University. We should not be giving kids from out-of-the-country spots in our University over kids in our state who carry the same grades and test scores. We are sending so many of our talented kids out of state.

I’ve seen people say this over the years, and I assume people don’t realize almost 90% of UF undergrads are in-state.

When you factor in athletes and such, that out of state # gets sliced even further.

Grad students on the other hand I know have a much more international flavor, but I’m not sure Florida residents are getting “left out”.

As far as the leadership, I see no reason a school like UF would limit itself to in-state hires. Ideally UF could hire a proven success from a peer top tier University. In state, there are no peer schools. You want us to try to poach UCF’s President or something? Not dissing them (as I know literally nothing about UCF’s President), just pointing out how ridiculously narrow that is.

But we are probably kidding with this discussion, wherever the person comes from it’s quite likely to be another political lackey with zero experience running higher ed.

The BOT has some big money riding on Jacksonville right now. Gotta imagine they’ll want to bring someone in right away to keep that gravy train flowing.

This was a bullshit disciplinary action. Keely was not being disruptive. She was due to get her Master's degree in Molecular Biology on May 3, but now my beloved UF is with holding her degree for 3 years.

I guess that's what happens now when UF is over 30% jewish kids. :(

It's not the Jewish students. It's the administrators' hostility towards the protesters' viewpoints and need to come off as "tough."

That could be correct. But I think that because UF is now over 30% Jewish kids that the administration was influenced to discipline Ms. Keely on April 31, when she was due to get her Masters degree on May 3rd.
Poor Ms. Keely, she was only 3 days from receiving her Masters degree and now UF is withholding her degree for 3 whole years. WTF is she supposed to do for the next 3 years?
This is a terrible, terrible outcome, a total overreach of justice.

2nd job he's quit without doing anything, and I suspect he will continue failing upward, nice non-work if you can get it.

Honestly, this would be funny if it wasn’t such a real risk. I’m deeply concerned that the DeSantis-run search committee will choose someone who swears fealty to DeSantis. Sasse has a backbone and the gravitas to keep our school on course. I’m really concerned the next one will be a political appointee whose goal aligned with DeSantis Hate War — someone the likes of Gaetz, or Randy Fine.

Very sad situation for his wife and family which of course should be his priority.

I have no strong feelings about his tenure, seems like kind of a MEH. Scary to think about his successor tho given recent political intrusions into academia.

We’ve posted in similar forums for more than a decade. I’ve usually enjoyed your independent takes. A few of your posts lately have been a bit unhinged, I hope things are going OK for you.

I hope his wife is ok. I also hope this doesn’t delay Scott Stricklin’s voyage to the sun.
