And since you asked. A quick google search provided another example of Burns being public about his politics…

Ken Burns on Benjamin Franklin, Donald Trump and PBS

I stand corrected. 2016 Stanford commencement speech Burns did say he didn't believe Trump had the right temperament to be President. That was public. Other times he spoke out against Trump, it was not in a public capacity.

Here is is boring Stanford speech which literally was almost the exact same boring speech he just gave (I skimmed but the opening is plagiarized/well reused lol) but the Lincoln leading into the Trump was also generally the same though not as close to word for word as the intro. Literally!

Solid speech, for its intended audience.

Too bad our poly adversaries opposite the aisle are incapable of even allowing for tolerance, let alone approval, of views they do not agree with, aimed at people such views are calculated to resonate with.

TDS seems to annihilate inhibition more effectively than alcohol.

(Did captain history fail to realize that this unnamed other candidate already served a term in office, and yet....here we are?!?!? TDS also seems to obliterate reason, better than doobage).

Oh well. Doesn't undo his prior work, and I'd like to believe, won't prevent him from competence in any future doc'ys he might undertake.

Lol! @ how the "God/her" line face planted.

He really thunk he was clever there, like that'd ruffle feathers.

To a crowd that refuses to acknowledge God...OR women!

Know your audience, Kenny boy. (Seems he figured that out by the time he gave the OP speech).

    :p:D:p

If you are looking for a great commencement speech, look no further than our own backyard. My daughter graduated last summer for her Masters. Both Woodard’s commencement speech and Sasse’s introduction speech were outstanding.

Damon Woodard's commencement speech for Summer 2023!

    Triggered leftists …

“Arrrg! He said ‘motherhood’ and ‘homemaking!’ Listen to this weatherman instead. He said ‘fair to partly cloudy.’ Shames Butker by comparison!”

Ken Burns is a brilliant documentary writer.
    The Hemingway doc was brilliant.

However, he is a liberal and will generally speak as one. There should be no shock there.

Ken Burns once characterized slave owners as the pro-choicers of their time.

I've watched that one several times. Also watched the Viet Nam one a couple times and the one on National Parks. The only one I didn't watch was the baseball one mostly cuz I don't enjoy baseball (I like women's softball better).

Forget politics. Do yourself a favor, search out his works, find one of his subjects that interest you, and then watch the documentary. He’s, in my opinion, the very best there ever was in making the documentaries.

Why am I not surprised that the same folks that repeatedly discount actual experts in lieu of their own opinions, are also completely unaware of perhaps the most famous documentarian ever?

I guess it's because he doesn't have a segment on FoxNews. You know, the "news" channel that none of our Too Hot Republicans claim to watch, despite the fact they so miraculously parrot its feature programs' talking points.

Willful ignorance is apparently another powerful opioid.

Well with all of this praise he must be better at his day job than he is at commencement speeches. I’ll see if he has done anything on an area that interests me and I’ll check it out.

I invite you to show where I parrot Fox News. When you can’t, please STFU.

Im assuming by “actual experts” you’re referring to my disdain of the Little Idiot, Anthony Fauci. If so, I stand by my thoughts. Not only was he a corrupt fool, he was too old for the job. I’m 64 and have a pretty stressful job. But if something came up where I knew I would be running at 80 hours/week for an unforeseen period of time I would gladly give up my 15 minutes of fame for the good of the cause. That little fool loved his 15 minutes so much that he extended it to a full year and contributed little to nothing, unless you consider contradictory interviews, and irresponsible speculation contributions.
