She is the Sweetest person you will meet. Does not make fun of others for how they look. Treats people with Love and Kindness. You could learn from her.

You were just as dependent on your mother after you took your first breath as you were at conception.

False. That is why we allow adoption after birth but not re-implantation in another woman immediately after conception. Because you aren't as dependent on your mother after birth.

You really are sad. Your ugliness is palpable and unfortunate.

I truly hope your heart is softened and you realize how ugly and disgusting you have acted in representing yourself.

I think it is pretty obvious that I would protect the Life of a child born with Downs. Hopefully you would do the same. But seeing how flippant you are to someone with Downs. It is unfortunately hard to believe you would.

Cry harder. I was just asking a question. Many people feel that mental retardation is justified grounds for terminating a pregnancy. I think a lot of conservative people even feel that way. Was just curious.

Stories like this is why we need some kind of middle ground. Its why I struggle to support one party 100%.
This is absolutely terrible for the woman.

False. It takes the mother caring enough for the child like she did when they were in her room to either continue caring for the child or allowing someone else to care for the child. The child is just as dependent on the mother after its first breath whether it be until the mom makes the decision to give it up for adoption or the decision to raise it herself.

Lol. Wow, that is one crazy stretch you are engaged in. So if the birth mother doesn't care at all, the child is sent to live in the woods until they die or something? Or does the state step in at that point and provide for the care of the already born child, up to and including a likely adoption?

Anyway something like 90% of pregnancies with downs are terminated. So a lot of conservatives are ok with it. Found that interesting.

@BigCypressGator1981: The Planned Parenthood donation section of their website has a wonderful feature. When making your donation it allows you to select if your gift is in honor or in memory of someone with a place to enter their name. There is a definite catharsis to making a gift in honor of someone deserving of the recognition.

The 11-year old girl finally tells her family that she is pregnant in the 25th week of her pregnancy. She was afraid to tell anyone until then. That’s probably not considered to be health related. How about if a pregnant female threatens to kill herself if she can’t get an abortion? Who decides if that is health related? Should it be our politicians, or even doctors who have their own political views on abortion? Is DeSantis or Ladapo the person who will appoint panels of doctors to make these decisions? I think that the pregnant woman or family of the pregnant child as a general rule is best suited to make the decision. In the Terry Schiavo case, if anyone remembers that, Jeb Bush thought that he was the best person to make that decision. I’ve been turned off to that guy since then. Yes, there can be some guidelines for 3rd trimester pregnancies, but they should be biased towards protecting the pregnant female.

Chapter 390 covers "Termination of Pregnancies" (link)

Within 390, 390.011 covers definitions (including "'viable' or 'viability'"). I don't know how legalese works, but I know there are a lot of laws on the books that I wish were expressed in a simpler form.

I still don't think the doctor should be making the call on this on his own. There should be a reasonably simple process that allows a hospital to submit a request to see if a given situation falls under the intent of the law; I know someone in that field (hospital administration), I'll see if I can get his opinion on that sort of thing. If the doctor believes that an abortion is morally justified, then he should be an advocate on his patient's behalf *at least* to bring the matter up with the hospital administrators. Let them make the decision on it as they should have legal experts to determine whether or not they can navigate the legislation and still act in the spirit of the law by allowing the abortion.

I don't agree with you that some Christians would still have a problem with this procedure in light of the facts involved. Is @gatorplank still around? I think he was one of our strongest abortion opponents. I'd be curious to know his thoughts on this matter.

I'm pro-choice, but I believe that, in general, abortion is immoral and should be avoided (I don't support abortion laws, I don't think that's the proper way to address this issue at all). That said, forcing the birth of a dead fetus from a woman's body is medically considered an "abortion" (note: this law defines it otherwise, no idea if that's new or has always been that way). I don't think that or this topic is what anybody has in mind (including those who drew up the law) when seeking to reduce abortions.

The doctor has to know that his view is wrong (morally), and admit that he can't claim with certainty that performing the abortion violates state law. That alone requires him to escalate the issue, in my opinion. If he did that, and he was told "no," then he needs to not own that decision, but pass on that information to his patient and let them take it up with whomever it may be. If he did not do that, then that is the only thing that I would blame him for.

    ===============

EDIT: It looks like the doctor did call on the administrators, and made the decision based on their determination. I don't blame the doctor if that's true. I think the administrators should have reached out to the state for approval. If that's not a thing, then it needs to be.

Just one more note on viability and why I don't even think it's remotely close to being considered viable:

"...another ultrasound that showed the fetus had no kidneys."

"A third ultrasound, now at 24 weeks gestation, confirmed the earlier findings, Deborah said, and the specialist told them that the condition was incompatible with life."

"Babies with Potter syndrome often die before they are born when their umbilical cords become trapped between their bodies and the wall of their mother’s uterus. Those that survive the birth process typically suffocate within minutes or a matter of hours."

Honestly, what is the logical argument for viability here?

    LOL!

You must still not understand what you have posted. Which was a good piece on how your Life developed. Starting at conception.

It's a medical decision that shouldn't involve the state, especially some panel appointed by DeSantis.

    ???

The child is 100% dependent on the mother. In the womb and outside of the womb. The child is dependent on the mother outside the womb for far longer than 9 months the vast majority of the time as most mothers decide to raise their child themselves. Some mothers care for the child until its birth and then give others the responsibility of nurturing the child. But the child is dependent for much longer outside the womb and then inside the womb.

Okay, let's see if you can follow this. A woman gives birth to a child. Doesn't acknowledge the child at all. Leaves the child at the hospital and walks away. What happens to the child? Does the child die?

No the mother made the decision to let others continue the care the child requires. Thankfully she decided not to let someone kill the child inside her womb.
