I've said it over and over again, racism won't truly be over until we stop talking about it. Every time a Sandman, a Smolette, a Bubba Wallace or even a George Floyd incident comes up all other news is put on the back burner. There are black on black, white on white, black on white crimes that take place everyday and nobody cares, let a white on black incident take place and it is front page news. Myself and I am sure most of you interact daily with people of all races and all nationalities and we all get along just fine. My neighbor on the right is a Puerto Rican married to a German. on the left I have an Asian couple, across the street a Venezuelan. We get along as well as any neighbors, except maybe the German lady, I can't understand a word she says. My point is that there is little to no racism unless you let it happen. That said if my Asian neighbor were to say I hate Puerto Ricans or Venezuelans then there would be issues in the neighborhood but that's not happening because none of us make it happen.

Implying that racism originates only from "white people" is itself a racist viewpoint.

How did a thread about the teacher shortage in FL become about racism?

Fair point, but I don't think my post evoked any responses about racism. I'm thinking more like post 142 & what they responded to.

Ok, explain to me what I'm missing then.

You explicitly say that it is "white people" doing things that oppress groups and racism exists because of it. One of your examples specifically calls out "the white guy". The other two examples imply that the person in question has to be white.

So I'll say again, "Implying that racism originates only from 'white people' is itself a racist viewpoint."

EDIT: I think I do need to at least also explicitly say that in no way, shape or form am I calling you a racist. I'm simply suggesting that you need to rethink your definition of racism. Anyone is capable of it and no one is immune from it.

I did. I bolded it in the previous post.

"As long as white people do things that gives them the power to oppress any group then racism, sexism, and homophobia exists.“

Marriage has taught me that not talking about an issue only makes things worse

Absolutely true! However, the conversation also needs to be geared towards people's commonalities (not quite the right word, I'm not exactly sure what is the right word is) instead of highlighting their differences.
