You're right. Every state has varying types and levels of freedom. I can't smoke recreational marijuana in Florida but I can in other states. I can open carry in New Hampshire but not Florida. For every "freedom" Florida offers I can find another state with another freedom to offer. It's a dumb argument people love to have.
No. While most states don’t there are a handful that do. Shoot our president’s state does it… Of course no outrage from our DeSantis haters here. The true pettiness ironically is the OP and the crew that is stroked by the OP.
I must have missed it. Who was complaining about the signage containing the governor’s name? Seems like a waste of money and inconsequential information to me but not an issue. Regarding buying new signs to say “free state” I’m with @WESGATORS on this being somewhere between dumb and no harm.
The OP… “And it just gets pettier and more stupid as the days roll on ...” And the piling on can be seen for pages from the few. So I guess you skipped the OP and what followed?
Right! What purpose does it serve? And what problem does it solve? None and none. So the money spent for the new signs was for other reasons then.
It allows the DeSantis haters to ignore the democrat states that do this and whine like a child about DeSantis. https://www.wmar2news.com/news/local-news/marylands-welcome-signs-now-say-leave-no-one-behind
Huh? The story I posted was about the new signs saying "Free state of Florida ..." not the fact that DeSantis' name is on it. And, yes. It's stupid and petty, IMHO.
So you're saying that media all over the state is reporting about the new "Free State of Florida" signs. But it has nothing to do with "Free State of Florida ..."?
Do you think it is petty to brand our state in a good way? I think this is all about the whiners on the left who hate DeSantis and the fact he is crushing it. Take his name off the sign. What is wrong with branding our state this way (whether you think we are the soviet union or not in Florida)?
This is just another iteration of our existing brand, the "Florida Man" stereotype. So more like brand reinforcement.
You can attempt to sidetrack any reasonable conversation with the stale "It's only because you hate him ..." But it's a petty political claim that has no place on the state welcome sign.
I'll tell you what. I won't claim to know what you're really thinking and you don't do that about me. Deal?
I don't know, it seems political in calling yourself "free" you are implying that other states aren't. Its the same damn country everywhere, isn't it? Its pretty stupid to me because if you have to go out of your way to say how cool or free you are, you probably aren't.
Tell you what … if DeSantis never campaigns or boasts (on the next 5 years) on the premise that he made Florida the “Free State of Florida” — a definitional misnomer, but I’ll stay on topic — I will come back and say you’re right. But if he does, you come back here and admit that it was political.
Not sure what he may run for next, but he already used the pitch about the free state of Florida during his presidential campaign.
