Agree on SD, spent my last semester in grad school there doing independent study. It is a beautiful area with great year-round weather and yea it is conservative thanks in large part to the military bases. For me that is the great irony tho. Every time I hear Fox and company crap on California, implying only commies and homeless live there, I think of all the conservatives living in southern California and in the state's inland areas. There are more Rs in California than Bama Miss, La, and Ark combined. The state has had multiple R governors in the past and the prior Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy was from Bakersfield, yet the state seems to be #1 on the Fox hate list. .
Quite a list considering a number of them aren’t true at all and only one of them (#5) is even mostly true.
LMFAO! Except for the crime... taxes... affordability in everything, pick one... smog... traffic... homelessness...population density and murders... It's better? Lol...
You are really splitting hairs to make the distinction you are making. I would argue that they are all substantively true. To be honest, this kind of signaling of tribal superiority is among my least favorite of the modern political trends, but if we accept this is just what we are going to get today, this isn’t among the worst examples out there.
In our case it was the oldest, but two years away from the beach was all she could stand. She has salt water in her veins. Wife's family has a cabin in Jefferson. We get over there 2 or 3 times per year.
The sign, on its own, with no context is nothing to get heated over. But, there is clear and obvious context — it is entirely politically driven. I don’t want to see public signs with political messages up and down our highways, particularly when those signs are intentionally conceived to cause more division and divide.
Funny you should say that. Our youngest was an AAU swimmer from the time she was 8 years old and had scholarship offers from some DII schools, but she’d had enough of daily training for 10 years and headed to the mountains. She ultimately ended up in London, where she now lives, with a degree from LSE.
Eh… there is nothing to be upset about. Maybe if they put Republican on there. This is nothing but whining by a few who just hate DeSantis.
"Free" is always subjective. I can't burn my own trash; I can't install a pool in my front yard; I can't litter; I can't drive as fast as I want to; I can't opt out of paying taxes; when I think of a push for pure freedom, I think of former posters like AnnArbor and "DREAMLINER" and his private police details. Inevitably, this sign was going to be controversial. Nobody thought it wouldn't be. There was zero value added when these went up. I'm torn between "stupid" (waste of time and money) and "no harm done" (relatively small expense). Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
If you love being outdoors AND don't have any concerns about money, then you really can't beat CA. The weather is perfect almost year round, low humidity and you can do the beach or mountains in the same day. If I had a somewhat unlimited money supply, I would move there in a heartbeat. All their liberal laws wouldn't have much effect on me at that point. San Diego is very nice (west of the mountain anyway) as is the area north of San Fran.
The landscape is beautiful there... I lived in California for nearly 3 years. The people in control are the problem of state government is the problem.
I think that someone as informed as you understands the context and subtext of the signs. There may be whining by those who despise DeSantis, but don’t you think that is precisely why DeSantis put the signs up to begin with?!
On almost all of the land, it is still allowed to be used for ranching. Cattle is one of the highest nutrient runoff categories on the list of land uses in both nitrogen and phosphorus. Details...
