UCF is solid defensively and it's not surprising that they might be slightly more talented since their coach has been there a few seasons to establish a strong program. She was actually the coach of the Albany team that upset Amanda Butler's 5th-seeded Lady Gators in the tournament a few seasons ago.
I don’t follow womens basketball. So is UCF also the defending National champions in womens basketball?
They had a really good season but with Florida missing it’s best player that’s a huge blow for our lady Gators.
69-52 UCF final. We competed better in the 2nd half, keeping it within 10 or so until the waning minutes, but just didn't quite have the horses to really mount much of a comeback. Next month or so should be interesting to see what sort of roster Kelly's able to put together for next year.
Not just interesting, but pivotal. If Zippy doesn't come back we are in serious need of a couple of guards and a couple of posts that can have an immediate impact. We are about to find out if she can recruit. If not next year concerns me. Take this years team and take away Kiki, Lavender, and Zippy and what do we look like. The good news is there are a lot of really good players in the portal right now... let's go get em.
Got beat by a better team did anybody here think before this season that we would even make the NIT kids played hard competed to the end I'll stick with them and Kelly Rae
There actually were some of us saying 20 wins and NCAA was the expectation...which they met. It just ended poorly.
I think it's more they just ran out of gas. They had an epic run through the middle of conference play. We lost 3 in a row and was down and about to lose a 4th before Kiki went down. No doubt we could have used them in the last two games though. I just really think the emotional ups and downs they went through and that impressive run had a toll as well. The SEC as a whole has struggled in the tournament as well. Ole Miss and UK went down today to lower seeds. We were outmatched. LSU struggled to knock off Jackson State and Tennessee struggled a good while with Buffalo. There is still an opportunity to move our program into the upper echelon of the conference. This season was a nice start, but we have seen an occasional year here or there for decades. Hopefully Kelly can actually maintain and build on it. Getting Zippy back is honestly a very big deal and a great start. We got some work left to do in the portal though to make another jump.
My 2 cents Looking toward 2023 Nina and Zippy will step up as leaders and they are both very capable to lead Rickards led Florida with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Zippy Broughton had an all-around performance, finishing with 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists. The Gators were 26-0 against UCF in program history prior to Saturday. The post play has to improve, Faith has made strides since she arrived but seems injury prone? The twins need to make a big step up to SEC calbre Alberte just needs to gain confidence andManu just gets better every year, being on campus over the summer should be a positive IMO this year's step up will help KRF will recruit I am optimistic for the 2023 season
