    Pearsall is a better player.

He got beat out. So did Lloyd Summerall, Corey Collier, Avery Helm, Dajon Reynolds, David Reese, NayQuan Wright, Jalen Lee, Jordan Young, Chief Borders, etc
You don't quit till the season is over

Are we arguing again about a Gainesville kid whose offers out of high school were the equivalent of USF or below, had some good hands but wasn't consistently open, had younger more athletic receivers pass him on the depth chart but weren't really of SEC quality either? If we want to be competitive with Kentucky and South Carolina we will be concerned about him being benched. If we want to be competitive with the top 5 teams in the SEC we will not care he was benched and steered his little brother elsewhere who may never play receiver where we would only consider him.

His little brother wants to play QB in college. Trent was not as good as Ricky.

In reference to Whit or Braun? Braun left very early. Either way they were Gators and both great kids. Repped is really well so I’ll be rooting for them.

I tend to agree with you. I and one or two others mentioned with our WR room, especially when Shorter got hurt, that our best line up would have been Ricky outside and Trent in the slot.
As I’ve said before, none of us have any idea what happened or what occurred. In the spring, Trent looked like one of our top 3-4 receivers based on who Billy was running out there. Something happened. Kid has great hands and runs great routes. I’d get it if we had Swain, Percy, and others but we didn’t have those guts in the room. Anybody that has been around Trent will always say the same thing. Great kid!! Will always root for him.

I originally thought this had something to do with it, but changed my tune when I read about his commitment to MSU. When he talked about their coaches and how they were recruiting him, it was all about how they would use him in different receiver roles. No mention of the qb thing.
I think UCF was offering him at least a tryout at qb, like we did for Toney, and that offer was intriguing to him, but the team he chose did not appear to be offering the same opportunity.

And, I would put Braun in the same category. But we weren’t discussing him. You and a few others seem to get triggered when Whit’s name comes up.

I wouldn’t use the term “beat out.” He was the number two slot for most of the season. He got more PT and was more productive backing up Toney two seasons ago. Looked to me that Billy kept starters on the field more and didn’t mix and match between receiver positions. Trent had the best hands on the team but the slowest feet. Nothing he could do about that. Didn’t help that the offense became more focused on the running game.

Given how many players did quit during the season, I think there must have been some encouragement on the coaches part.

Trent turned down offers from Yale and an appointment to West Point to come to UF. I hate seeing an intelligent, high character guy like him getting pushed out.

None of those players had contributed as much as Trent had. And please tell me who had fewer drops than Trent. His biggest obstacle was his QB and the coaches’ unwillingness to use him or Pearsall in any other roles.

I wonder how this will affect recruiting at Buchholtz in the near future.

Me too, great kid. Hope he does great at UCF. Says it all when you mention West Point and Harvard.

It’s not really like Bucholtz is some powerhouse program spitting out 5 stars. If they get their panties in a twist about Trent getting beat out, so be it. You have no idea what was going on behind the scenes. Did Trent’s attitude change the moment we brought in Pearsall and his dream of being a starter this season was crushed? Him leaving the team mid season tells me there is much more to this story. Likely some blame on both sides, but there’s not really any question that he was supplanted by a better player. You can’t go too far out of your way accomdating all the feelings and pt demands of every three star on the team. Some folks are going to get beat out, some are going to get their feelers hurt. It is what it is.

Are you ever going to move on from this, or is this family’s kids going to be your new Matt Corral that you bring up every time one of them has a positive moment?

USF or lower? Try GA Tech, Duke, Yale and Army.

Nobody passed on the depth chart but Pearsall and No one but Pearsall played better than Trent. How many drops did we see this year? How many catchable balls skipped off the fingertips of receivers? I agree with the poster who said Pearsall could have played some on the outside letting Trent run short to intermediate routes from the slot. Mullen got a lot more production from his receivers letting X guys play Y or Z and vice versa. Get the best three or four receivers on the field and let the QB find them.

Din’t bet against Creed. He is a dangerous offensive weapon and would have been the second fastest player in this class.

When did GT, Yale, Duke, and Army become powerhouse football programs? I don’t think anyone is saying the kid isn’t smart. They’re saying he’s not worthy of all the heartache over missed pt. It’s not like he’s Percy Harvin, and we just buried him on the depth chart as a fun experiment.

I would have preferred to keep just about every player on that list over Trent. Even more now that I know they won’t quit on their team mid season. Doesn’t really matter though, because they’re all gone anyway.

Exactly. The little heartbroken TW fans can go root for middle of the road tradition programs. If we want to compete and get back with the big boys, we have to think and expect better than the Whittemore brothers. Period.

Strange and some others appear obsessed with this kid. He’s not good enough to be even close to elite in big time SEC football. Alabama and Georgia would laugh out loud about having to play him. Move on.

Doubt it affects it at all, we just signed Gavin Hill from Buchholz (4* DL) and Mark Whittemore (Trent/Creed's father and Buchholz head coach since 2012) just retired last month. I would guess most of the Buchholz kids grew up Gator fans, have family that work at/for UF, attended games there, etc.
