I'll grant it, this is one sided story for now, with only the teacher talking and the district saying "they'll investigate" ... but he says a district worker came into his classroom to inspect it, then just started pulling posters of "black heros" (Martin Luther King Jr., Colin Powell, Harriett Tubman and George Washington Carver) off his walls, and removed a photo of Barrack Obama off his desk, saying the photos are not "age appropriate". The teacher says his students are mostly black and he wanted posters of inspirational black people in the room. Does DeSantis have a goon squad of workers hunting down rainbow stickers and positive messages about black people (AKA "critical race theory")?

I was in my kids classroom the other day, and the teacher had a space cat poster on the wall, among a few other funny things. I feel like I need to send her a message telling her to listen for the sound of jack boots coming up her portable steps so she has a chance to flee before they get to her.

would hanging a picture of DeSantis be 'appropriate' for the classroom? That's what I might do, then hang additional pictures of great black civic leaders...

Seems the teacher was looking for a reason to quit anyway because that seems like a small thing. Shouldn’t have a problem getting a job somewhere else.

Based on what we can know as of now, it's NOT a small thing! If what we know now turns out to be true, then the act of removing the photos was racist and vile, and it violates academic freedom.

It is a small thing when you can file a complaint, get your pictures back, and put them back up on the wall. The teacher decided to not fight back but decided to quit instead. Again, the teacher was obviously not happy and felt this was a good reason to walk away.

What is your theory as to why these pictures were not allowed? Have you ever heard of a school district that would ban pictures of humans from the classroom? It doesn't seem like a political thing, since he had both Colin Powell and Barrack Obama ... seriously, what's your thoughts here that would make this okay (assuming it's true and happened as the teacher said it did)?

You think that’s bad, check out what’s going on in Collier County, where the School Board, under DeSants’ direction, censored 140 books because they mention homosexuality or slavery.
Southwest Florida school district places warning labels on over 100 books

Included is Maya Angelou’s memoir. A John Updike Book, and a myriad of children’s books because they reference a child might have gay parents.

A full list of the censored books is below.
Florida School District Slaps Stigmatizing and Alarming Warning Labels on Books Deemed “Unsuitable” for Children

What’s most telling is what didn’t make the censor list. Hunger Games? No problem. All of Harry Potter, regardless of the progressive darkness. No warnings in Shakespeare, despite the replete it’s incest, sexuality and murder filling its pages. It mention homosexuality or a different race … CENSOR!!!

    What a disgrace.

Does the Federal government subsidize Florida public education? If so, they need to leverage those monies and bring DeSantis to heal.

    EDIT: google
Does the federal government pay for local schools?

Public schools are funded through a combination of local, state, and federal dollars. In the 1920s, local governments provided more than 80 percent of school funding; today, state and local governments provide an equal share of school funding, with the federal government covering less than 10 percent.

I can only assume they teach because they don’t do it to get rich.

Right now, DeSantis and Florida legislature are calling the shots regarding their current fascist public education dictates until they are stopped. Maybe if all teachers statewide walked off the job...(most including my daughter can not afford to walk off the job.)

The situation with schools, esp. in states like FL and TN is serious. If you deem it not worthy of conversation, start a thread on the "current WH s..tshow" and ignore this one.

My wife teaches in FL. Try not to esteem yourself to highly. She has for 25 years. She’s tired of the political nonsense as well as most of her colleagues

We’re looking for literally anything we can find to call racist. Yeah, the guy was an idiot and should be shitcanned. It’s uncommon but needs to be dealt with.
This is not remotely commonplace in teaching
