ok. I'm familiar with the scale for AP classes but know nothing about IB since we dont have those here in maryland.
Alabama gives large scholarships to out of state students who will bring their grades and scores to Alabama. I hire out of state graduates from Alabama all the time because they are generally very smart kids who needed the money to go to college. They make up some of my best young employees.. sadly as I am a Bama hater.
Most kids who dont get into UF with good grades didnt take a challenging course load. Kids always ask administrators if they should take hard classes and risk getting a B or easier classes and definitely get an A...elite schools will tell you that you should take hard classes and get an A.
Funny, maybe it’s the snooty people I work with. But if their kid doesn’t get into a big name school (lots of Ivy, MIT, USNA type kids but UVA is considered acceptable too), they send them to some helmet school in the south, take the scholly money and then always happen to claim their kid is there for the one major that school is good at. They probably succeed long term though, good families and good work ethics they are raised with.
I don’t know if it’s still the case, but historically Alabama and Oklahoma were the two schools that recruited the hardest for National Merit finalists (as in full scholarships even for nonresidents).
What some students/parents don’t realize that dual enrollment credits can actually hurt your chances for admission UNLESS you complete your AA and apply to a program that will admit you. There are “direct connect” programs, Sante Fe to UF for example. In your transcript is a school profile sheet that explains student demographics, courses offered, things like that. If a school has a robust AP/IB program and your student chose to take the easier route through the community/state college that’s a ding. Students from more rural counties may not be able to access these classes although they are available through FLVS.
You have to give respect to get respect. Swampbabe doesn’t give a whole lot of respect. Maybe she helped you. But what I see is a poster who spends more time insulting people and grandstanding than actually contributing any helpful insights.
