There's a significant amount of data that lends credence to my stance that we benefit in ways that we're unlikely to even recognize. Unconscious bias abounds in our society. You or I may have gotten a job over an equally qualified (or even slightly more qualified) person of color because the person hiring for the job felt more at ease around somebody who looked and talked like them.

The levers of power are disproportionately wielded by white men. Because our society has to actually make an effort to help women or people of color to get a leg up, it's noticeable. It's not so noticeable when white men benefit simply from being white men. Yet, study after study shows there is a benefit to being white.

Hell, I'd imagine even some white men who trust the data of those studies and believe in their conclusions convince themselves that they're one of the ones who haven't benefitted. It's other people benefitting. It's a bit like Congress. People know that Congress is problematic, but they convince themselves that everybody else's Congressman (or woman) is the problem, not theirs.

I’ve never interviewed for a job. Had an offer right out of school from some MIT grads that my old man knew (all white).
All the stuff you speak of IDK is real.

You are talking about may haves I'll tell you something that actually happened. 1993 I applied for a job with the county. The job qualifications listed required that the applicant hold either a GC license or an Inspectors license and have 5 years experience in the field. At the time I interviewed I possessed both licenses +4 additional construction industry licensing board licences. I also had 10+ field experience years and a BCN degree from UF. As I left the interview I ran into a friend in the hall that told me I wouldn't be hired because word around the department was they were looking for a minority applicant. The job ended up going to a Cuban born American applicant who did not meet either of the listed main qualifications. The licensing requirement was bypassed by applying to the state for a provisional license under the condition that he obtain a regular license within 6 months. A month later when another opening came up I was hired. Luis the guy hired ahead of me and myself became good friends and Luis would be the first one to tell you I was far more qualified. That said Luis turned out to be a fine inspector and him being bilingual was a big help to all of us.

As I noted, you're well aware of the one time Luis benefitted at your expense. What you aren't aware of are all the times you benefitted at the expense of other people of color. And you will likely deny those times happened. But I'm quite confident they did.

I know in my life some of the times when it happened because I work to be aware of it. I also know of one or two times in my life when I had no shot at a position because they wanted to hire a person of color. And because I was aware of the past instances when I benefitted, I wasn't bitter over it.

You need to get over that white guilt thing.

WTF I am a people of color, my color is white. Telling me I should feel guilty because of something someone of my race not even related to me did years before I was born is the epitome of racism.

No, you should feel guilty for the many racist things you've actually said and done.

I've told you over and over again I am not racist. I treat everybody equal and only ask that everybody else do the same. Just because I disagree when certain people are treated as special does not make me racist.

I don't doubt you believe this. But many of us have been on this forum long enough with you to read the things you've said and the stories you've told.

Who are these "certain people" being treated as "special"?

And that is why McConnell twisted the rules to stack the deck, likely for a long time. Who funded McConnell to make this happen? With a dysfunctional congress, the USSC becomes king, with no check or balance much the same way no potus will ever have to fear impeachment again provided they control a radical base. Our gubmnt is broke, we have a lopsided partisan kingmaker implementing rules now

I'm not the one ignorant of the history here. Anybody who thinks the Equal Protection Clause requires "colorblindness" is disregarding history. Yet another example of "originalists" ignoring originalism when it is inconvenient to their politics.

All I have ever asked is that we treat everybody as equals. If we are going to riot over George Floyd we should riot over anybody who breaks the law then resists arrest then gets man handled by the police then happens to die of a fentanyl induced heart attack.
