To be clear, I'm under no illusions that banning marijuana would slow down auto deaths related to cannabis inhalation/ingestion. In general, alcohol is much more deadly overall, any way you slice it.

C'mon, I've seen more college students destroy their lives with booze than recreational weed use. We are talking about drugs here, excess isnt good in any case.

Amazing the continued selective concern some have. They continue to act like it's an all or nothing scenario instead of regulating it. Alcohol has obliterated families and continues to do so.

We see eye to eye on a lot of issues but I'll disagree all day on this one. Start posting numbers regarding the I'll effects of alcohol and let's discuss why we treat these substances so differently.

Maybe if they hadn't used such absurd propaganda to "educate" people about Marijuana in the past people would be more open to listening to actual legitimate concerns about abusing it....

For starters alcohol is consumed in a natural manner. Drinking is a natural behavior.
If you think smoke coming from your body is a natural act, well good day to you sir.
Also, I rarely drink from a tap. I like to believe I am in control of what I imbibe by drinking from a container.
Smoking can be inconsistent depending on many variables.

Play dumb. Alcohol is purely consumed for flavor and no other effects? OK....

People can ingest CBD in other ways than smoking. There are plenty of people that use Marijuana responsibly. Alcohol is a drug no matter how you slice it.

I’ve had this discussion with a Southern Baptist friend who was concerned that someone might see him take a drink and handle it OK but do likewise and become alcoholic with ensuing family breakup and damage to children etc.

It’s an argument that I can understand and respect - but not necessarily practice. When I had impressionable utes living in my house, I did not drink or keep liquor. Now when we see one another we sometimes enjoy a glass of good whiskey together.

This discounts how many people consume cannabis. It’s not just consumed by smoking - far from it.

It’s frequently consumed through eating (edibles), which is as natural as sipping from a container. It’s also in beverages— bottled beverages. It can be consumed through lotions.

I partake of MJ via oral ingestion. Good to know that’s totally natural and I can make it myself. I like to think I’m living off the land - a true Hunter gatherer.

I would venture that less people smoke weed now given all the options available, in fact, you can dose your water or beer with a tincture.

I prefer to drink bottled beer but I will get pints at bars. I don’t ever do shots. I was given a growler of an ipa I liked for my birthday. I had what I thought was just a pint of it but someone kept refilling my glass when I wasn’t paying attention lol. Good thing I was at a friends house across the street from mine. lol

Yeah, I wrote this and then ran a few errands and I thought, gummies are probably a good option.
I’m just not into it in any form.

    Few points from my perspective:

    1. I don't think any drug or potential "vice" is without risk of harm or externalities. We have decisions to make about trade-offs like we do with other things.

    2. If marijuana is as addictive and dangerous as some believe, I think that would support the following:
    • THC concentration should be regulated as we regulate alcohol. Few people are buying moonshine on the black market to get a higher proof than sold in the store.
    • If troubled users are worried about getting arrested or having a record, they will be less likely to seek mental health treatment or help quitting.
    • How does arresting addicts and leaving them with a criminal record help their prospects going forward?
    3. Prohibition doesn't stop people from getting it. Relatedly, is there anyone on this board who would start using marijuana if it became recreationally legal?

    4. The time, money, and resources spent on the prohibition of marijuana would be better spent on keeping it away from kids and going after hard drugs that are causing fatal overdoses. Not to mention the tax revenue associated with legalization is preferable than it being profits for gangs and cartels.

    5. The concern about DUIs seems fair, but how is that handled now where people have medical marijuana cards or take prescribed pain medication, for example? How does prohibition solve this issue?
