Go review some data from Dr Daniel Amen regarding the effect of MJ on developing brains (under 25 years of age).
Using SpECT scans it affects the neuropathways in young adults brains.

In particular high potency THC hasn’t been around for decades to really compare with decades of use vs alcohol.

5 year old study and they did a poor job of quantifying use of either substance.
Funny that the next study on your link describes how it affects memory.

Even with the medical cards you can pretty much buy a ton every week. And 3.5 grams of 30% THC isn’t the same as that quarter bag that used to last you 2 weeks 30 years ago.

To be sure. You see them driving down the road smoking it up.
Since the only way to test a level is with blood there is no data to say how many accidents involve high drivers.
So the comparison to drunk drivers can’t really be done.

 

I won't be though. Abuse is going to wreak havoc eventually regardless of substance. I don't advocate teens using it or adults needing to smoke 3 times a day. Again, I'm horrified at how hypocritical our society is when we can drive to a restaurant or bar for happy hour and then be willfully ignorant to the fact that many leave impaired.

Seriously just spend some time looking up weed induced psychosis. Don’t take my word for it. States where it’s fully legal are seeing huge rises in ER visits just for that alone. Even where it’s medically legal same thing. Getting a card is a complete joke. You pay the money tell them you have anxiety or PTSD and boom you got a card. They don’t verify anything. They don’t follow up to see if you’re using too much.
Imagine opioids handed out like that, oh wait we already did that one..

 

my 2 cents about weed & driving. 1. I definitely think people are FAR more likely to think it is fine to drive stoned & that they are fine to drive stoned. 2. as someone who's use both drugs pretty much daily for 40 years, DON'T Drive while under the influence of ANYTHING. 3. Colo driving while high stats have gone way up recently. Not sure how they do it, but I know there was a sig investment in state of the art tech for testing. 4. 1 mile from my house a guy killed a worker. The guy was stoned.

I don't understand why the state should prevent adults from taking reasonable risks. No one gets to enjoy weed - how do those lost benefits factor into your lust for prohibition?

I don't know where you're getting this info, but that's patently false in my state. One must have a qualifying condition that's diagnosed by a doctor and verifiably documented. Patients have to submit a report every time before visiting a dispensary. So, yeah, there's a a follow-up too.

My kids have dozens of friends who got their cards.

The verification isn’t by a second doctor.
Most didn’t even see the doctor, his “assistant “ saw them and his just signs off on it. They all think was joke.

I know the guy and his oversight is the dispensary that is supposed to monitor the use.
