I know around here, or at least the people I know, it seems to be an age thing moreso than a party thing.

The people I personally talk to support legalizing recreational use, too, but I often feel that the people I talk to may not be very representative about anything. According to polls I've read about, between 30% and 40% of Floridians oppose recreational marijuana, and there does seem to be a partisan gap. According to data analyzed by a guest columnist in The Tampa Bay Times, 71% of Democrats support it, but Republican support is only 49%. Independents are basically in the middle.

Of course, I suspect that older voters are more likely to be Republican in the first place, so we have to account for that. But it stuck out to me in the article that a higher percentage of Floridians over the age of 65 support recreational marijuana than do Floridians between the ages of 55-64. Also, Floridians who are aged 25-34 are slightly more supportive than the 18-24 age group. Not exactly sure what to make of those numbers. In any event, I suspect that the partisan gap might help explain why, despite a clear majority of Floridians approving recreational legalization, Florida's legislature, Governor, and Attorney General are all against it.

That’s because once you hit retirement age, you figure out “hey I don’t have much time left” and you want a buzz.

Lol... not with a Pub super-majority in the state Legislature and in the governor's mansion.

Well, another one that did a complete fly by over your head. @swampbabe was suggesting that the marijuana proposition will drive voter turn out and those voters are not likely to be Republican friendly.

    Just like abortion voters.

Ha, maybe. The 55-64 group seems to deviate from the overall age distribution pattern, though, and I find that interesting. Perhaps the 65+ group might also be more comfortable with marijuana due to them or their friends having health issues or using it for medicinal purposes.

Probably a big difference in how you view pot if if you were in your 20s in the Reagan/DARE 1980s vs being 20 in 1970.

Did not read the entire thread. I am what you refer as to old . I remember young teenagers felony charges for just using The opposition is from an Attorney General in line with her buddy Ronald to tell all how to live our own lives (never a user, myself), but it is similar about our descendents to be allowed to be indoctrinated as contrasted with being allowed to be have the right to be given a chance to hear all options.

I think it’s just an anomaly in the data. It’s one of those things of just wait 10 years and this will no longer be an issue.
