I guess I don’t see it that way.
When someone admits to be wrong, it’s usually best not to rub one’s face in it.
Maybe you missed that life lesson.

Bad relative to what; nothing; agreed. But when compared to the two most common drugs; nicotine and alcohol there is no competition. They are the two worst. It’s literally impossible to OD on MJ. One of the companies we sold CBD to had a lab where they tested toxicity of all of their products. They sold THC products so THC was tested. They used living Bovine lung tissue to perform tests and looked for cell damage or cell death. They had a color flatscreen attached to their microscopes and you could watch as the cells were impacted by whatever they tested. I asked how much MJ would you need to smoke to die in a sitting. His answer; 1200 pounds equivalent. You would die from smoke inhalation first.

I haven’t had a drug test for a job since 1988 when I worked for Bendix Aerospace. Summer job. Hell at Citrix they joked when I started we don’t have drug testing cause our CEO wouldn’t pass.

There are only two drugs listed(one is not on the list) below that qualify for schedule 1; no medical purpose; are alcohol and nicotine. Nearly every drug on this list has a medical application except alcohol. The largest cocaine mfg is J&J. Just found out there is a prescription version of Meth. There is zero medical applications for either alcohol and nicotine. Both kill more people than any other drug in the world. In fact, Alcohol is the 7th most toxic drug on the list. Cocaine is less toxic. Toxicity is defined as the delta between high and death.

I see a lot of unsupported claims in this thread. I worked in the CBD side of this business for 5 years and was actively going through alcohol recovery at the time. I served as a facilitator for SMART and read thousands of pages and articles on addiction. With that said I feel I know a bit more than average about the subject.

I saw somewhere here, Marijuana being referred to as a hallucinogen. It isn’t. A very robust study in England approached this directly. They found that smoking weed never produced any hallucinations; the subjects smoked 300mg of THC equivalent; they were able to produce hallucinations with concentrate at extreme levels. They concluded MJ cannot be classified as a hallucinogen.

If psychosis is your concern around MJ then legalization and de-scheduleization entirely is the route to go. Multiple British studies found that any negative impact by THC has on the brain is significantly reduced by including CBD. The way that is included back into weed is by reducing maximum THC levels. The weed we smoked in college had lower THC levels and reasonable CBD levels. As you push the THC many of the other beneficial Cannabinoids are reduced. This happened in Colorado with demand for high THC strains and no regulation on this aspect. We have strains here with over 30% THC. The stuff from old days was likely around 15-18%. CBD provides a protective component against THC. In fact, at events where people not used to the potency of oils and edibles who would have a highly anxiety inducing experience; we would give them straight CBD oil and within 10-15 min they were back to normal; high but not uncomfortable. So, some regulation would curtail any negatives.

The negatives of THC don’t even come close to those of alcohol. Alcohol is horrible on the gut; brain; organs; skin and often leaves users less functional for a day or more after even moderate usage.

The cannabis misuse and psychosis association was confounded by alcohol use. Non-impairing cannabis use was not related to psychosis. Results highlight the need to control for other substance use, so as to not overstate the cannabis/psychosis connection. Alcohol confounds relationship between cannabis misuse and psychosis conversion in a high-risk sample

When I quit alcohol; I read copious studies on the benefits on my body of quitting. One, I am always in a mental and physical mode to exercise. No hangovers. Secondly; after about a year of no alcohol the brain starts creating new synapses at an abnormal rate. After 2 years off alcohol my math skills were off the charts for me. I could do math in my head I had never been able to do before. During this time I was using MJ at night; mostly to help go to sleep. Found 10mg of THC infused chocolate enabled me to quit taking Nexium. Best part is I could dial in exactly the amount of THC that helped and knew what amount causes anxiety.

Using Portugal’s experience with complete drug decriminalization and the fact our legal attempts to curtail drug supplies has been a dismal failure. No one I know that’s used illicit drugs has never said I can’t get x drug right now. I would suggest decriminalization of all drugs; certain drugs would be free in a controlled environment with a requirement of being clean to exit said facility; would (1) Put the Cartels out of business (2) Allow us to reallocate law enforcement funds for drug enforcement toward addiction treatment; federal budget of $100bb (3) regulate the safety of certain drugs(reduce ODs).

But this would mean this issue is guided by science instead of anecdotes; urban legends and emotions.

I feel like there is a partisan divide here that exists even if we could account for other variables.

Even putting aside the racist tropes involved with early marijuana treatment, religiosity, etc., I think there's an ongoing antipathy toward marijuana that is partially based on associating marijuana with hippies, socialists, anti-war protesters, and the free-love era of the 1960s where young people rebelled against their parents, traveled around in vans, and flaunted having casual sex.

Interestingly, a poll I posted earlier suggested that marijuana use was reportedly higher in the South than the Northeast. Hank Jr. used to sing about drinking and getting high, and tons of good old boys smoke. I never considered it a regional or political thing. But I feel like there are some associations and stereotypes that prevail, particularly with older Americans, where it's become a bit of a proxy battle for other culture war issues.

I don't know if its a partisan divide TBH. Biden isn't very cool on weed TBH, and legalization/medicinal definitely has conservative proponents (which is why it passed in FL). I'm not sure what the divide is to be honest. Some of it is still probably generational, but I see plenty of seniors getting their cards.

Biden and his administration have done some good things. Don't want to overstate it since the polls have been moving nationally for some time and much of what's been done is bipartisan, as you note.

all my deep woods redneck relatives are stoners. My cousin & her husband run a couple Baptist book stores in tenn. & grew (prob still do) lots of weed. They seemed to have a lot of $. Oh, I think that's what the brilliant Molly Tuttle's singing about right here.

That's a very interesting study. I wonder what the state of Florida will decide when it comes to this particular drug.

The argument using alcohol though is that they aren't equal "wrongs" yet so many drinkers are adamantly against marijuana. That's the issue in my opinion anyway. People should go take a whiff of air around any bar district in any city in America around 1 or 2 am before they try to compare the two. I'm forced to in my job. It's overwhelming and if I think about it while I'm out there it's incredible it's legal.

I have no problem which way this law goes... But texting and riving is already bad enough. Can you imagine teens stoned and driving while texting? Or adults texting while driving stoned? My safety concerns are not just about your own body... and that damage. I leave this up the the state to decide. I've stated my concerns.

I think the people that will do that already do it though. Most people aren't asking for it to be unregulated or in the hands of kids. If anything I know a lot of people that would rarely drink alcohol again if weed was more accessible and accepted.

They have cannabis infused beer now. Or maybe it's a fruity alcohol drink? I was surprised to see it because MN just legalized recreational. Maybe it's really a low THC product. I wasn't really interested, but you're right. People can also take it orally via tincture.

I'd be okay if they decriminalize small-ish amounts of weed, versus criminality arresting people for small amounts of it. Getting caught with small amounts should never be dealt with in criminal court. That is something that I can agree with.

There's an episode of Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain - he visited Seattle and ate at a restaurant where they cooked with cannabis. It's a really great episode. I miss that guy - what a great show.

I initially thought you shared this as a matter of self-deprecation. Either way, I disagree. Neither you or anty fit this description.
