and right on cue after the elections. rest assured that this was not released without DeS approval. More BS about the "heartbeat"

If the Dem party doesn't get an abortion issue on the ballot they have nobody to blame but themselves for allowing this to happen

Supercharged by a supermajority in the House and Senate, Florida legislative leaders broke their silence Wednesday and confirmed they are prepared to discuss further abortion restrictions in Florida in the next year.
    .........................
Incoming Senate President Kathleen Passidomo told the Miami Herald/Tampa Bay Times in an interview that she wants to see the 15-week ban approved last year by lawmakers reduced to 12 weeks with the addition of an exclusion for rape and incest, which is currently not allowed.

“I went on record on the abortion bill in support of an exclusion for rape and incest, and I’d like to see that,’’ said Passidomo, a Naples Republican who will be sworn in this month as the third woman to be Florida’s Senate president. “And I think in order to accomplish that, I think we would have to reduce the weeks. I don’t have a problem going to 12 weeks.” Under the law passed earlier this year, all abortions are banned 15 weeks after a woman’s last menstrual period. Women can still obtain an abortion after that cutoff if their health is threatened or if their baby has a “fatal fetal abnormality,” but there is no exception for victims of rape or incest.
    .......................
“I know the governor wants to do something that is more protective, and his office is weighing what to do,’’ he said. “The question is how much political capital he will use to make this a priority.” Stemberger predicted that “the most likely thing to happen is a heartbeat bill” because that would put Florida in line with states to the north that have either banned all abortions or banned them after six weeks of gestation.

Florida Dems are deflated after the election but this would be perfect for brining back the energy. The GOP should leave it alone and move on to other things

Now that Republicans have a super majority, I wonder if the Florida Supreme Court will delay ruling in the pending case to allow a more restrictive law to be put in place before it renders its Opinion?

I seem to recall forebodings that DeSantis’ preoccupation with CRT, trans and other cultural considerations would hamstring the state GOP.

What do you have against a heartbeat? Seems like a good thing to me.

Define heartbeat. An electric impulse in a group of cells or a fully functioning heart. I have nothing against a heartbeat. I have a lot of problems with using it as an arbitrary point to deny abortions

Since the subject is abortion it's someone with a functioning uterus and ovaries whose pregnant. Good enough for you? Now define heartbeat also in the context of abortion laws.

I don't think 12 weeks is an unreasonable compromise if that's where it actually lands.

No one ask for any context, also I think it is pretty funny that someone is claiming the definition of a woman is off-topic in an abortion thread, because I tend to agree. This is about unborn children of both sexes, women have no more to do with it than men.

Not to mention in 48 states you can pull the plug on someone that is brain dead but has a heartbeat.

Republicans really need to read the room. DeSantis wants no part of this as he prepares to run for president.

Rd will have a tough time threading the needle. Dear Leader has unabashedly claimed and proven a staunch abortion ban stance (his motive, belief and history with women is for a different thread). RD at best can match him in that position, but if rd wins the nom, he will be lock into that stance for the general. And the issue has even more weight after the SC ruling.

I find it hard to believe that DeS didn't approve this before it went out.
