Nicely stated, and you really answered your own question--many of the naysayers are not and cannot be objective--subjectivity is there modus operandi!

It's better if the ST is not up in a booth somewhere, but it can be done. Just as some teams have their defensive coordinator upstairs, and he communicates the play call down.

The article explains that he is an analyst and will work along side the current analyst.

I don't get it. Why the resistance to hiring a COACH? No room for another coach on the staff? I've got a brilliant idea. Get rid of an OL coach, and you've still got one left! How do so many (most? almost all? all except one?) football teams in this country get by with one OL coach?

Probably, most of us are in agreement. Personally, I'd rather see both--ST and OC--and go with one OL coach. Go Gators!

Possibly another change in the works that hasn't been announced yet?

Eric Wilbur is with you and has some things to say about ST:

I think he needs to be upstairs as he can't coach players and will have to communicate to a coach coach on the field. If he's on the sideline, he's going to have some contact with a player and that will be a violation.

Thats not true. We had several analysts on the field instructing players all season. See post #47 of this thread.

The analysts have a LOT of contact with the players. Ohara is the guy with the QBs on the sideline thru the entire game, they have a little huddle and he's in there coaching them up. Same w Doekker and the WR

Coaches special teams / midnights on the Gainesville hot jazz circuit as a tenor saxophonist. I'm sold.

Baby steps ;). I wouldn't be surprised if one of our assistants finds another opportunity and Joe Saxophone gets upgraded to coach/coordinator.

That's a good listen - thanks! I found this segment interesting: Ali asks Wilbur "What kinds of schemes did you observe from last season's special teams?" Wilber: "None!" He then elaborates.

Also interesting to hear Eric Wilbur talk about ST under Zook/Meyer and the importance of Joe Saxophone having previous college experience because of the diff in rules between NFL/college.

Can be on the sideline/can't wear a headset.

I don’t know the language of the rule, but that strikes as them being assistant coaches and it sounds like we have many more than the allotted 10. Just because we’re doing it doesn’t make it right.

after watching the above video, it seems that headsets define coaches, which makes no sense to me.
