Chargers assistant Will Harris as the Gators next Defensive Backs coach, per Zach Abolverdi/On3. Harris will work his final game with the Chargers on Sunday and then begin at UF next week. See his resume below Harris has had most of his success at the college level, most notably, as a DB's coach at Washington (2018-21), where his unit
This hire just goes to show Napier isn’t serious about winning. Seriously! Hiring NFL position coaches for the same job in college. It’s clearly a lateral at best!!! (dripping with sarcasm)
I thought that Corey Raymond was a splash hire who would return us to the Golden Days of DBU. In any case, I suppose it’s a plus to have someone in place.
I hope to hear all our secondary recruits reaffirm by week's end. Another commit or 2. And a future that includes lock down corners who tackle well and fearsome Safeties.
TOS two or three of them have been chatting him up for the last 5 or 6 days. Glad we finally landed a good young up-and-comer.
Weird the report is out since those same reporters say Harris has yet to sign the contract. Expected to sign after Chargers game today but think better to wait until he actually signs to announce since it would inky be like 4 hours from now. I am relatively pleased if he is the hire.
Yeah we all have ptsd with reporters breaking news early and it ends up not happening but this is happening. I knew the minute he started following our commits and recruiting targets it was Harris. Makes no other sense why a NFL coach would start following our Highschool recruiting targets.
Apparently there was a reason for waiting to announce which this writer said he would touch on later today about. I'll inform as I find out more.
A reason? But I was reliably informed Billy was slow for no reason! They even put "process" in quotation marks! How can this be?!
If I'm not mistaken, his name came up as a possibility as soon as Raymond was let go. Speculation was that he'd be announced at the conclusion of the NFL season. But, I guess if today's game is his last, maybe Billy felt it necessary to announce him now and make a splash with DB recruits. I'm surprised he's leaving the Chargers with 4 more games left on their schedule. Maybe the fact they have no shot at the playoffs was enough for the Chargers to not hold him back from an opportunity elsewhere.
I posted a few days ago thatvon the chargers website Will Harris and only like 2 other coaches names were not able to be clicked on their picture to open their bio info. They also were not listed on the drop down menu of coaches. One of the other coaches was Robert Muschamp. Wonder if he too has been hired elsewhere.
