where are the insurance commissioners? in the pocket of the insurance industry?

Buffett Buys Chubb: Why You May Want To Follow The Oracle of Omaha Into His New Insurance Holding | The Motley Fool

These factors have all compounded to make many segments of the insurance market very "tight," with the remaining insurers being able to raise rates and improve terms aggressively. Rate increases have risen to such an extent that they have now outpaced loss inflation in the sector, leading to increasing profits and returns on capital for most.

Chubb, like its peers, has benefited handsomely. Last quarter, net profits surged 20.3% as the company improved its property & casualty combined ratio to 86%, which is a very high margin for an insurer. Core operating return on tangible equity also improved to a whopping 21.9%, up from the still-very-good 19.4% in the year-ago quarter.

My auto insurance doubled this year, so I had to get a new insurance company. The new company, based in Michigan, apparently hasn't heard about Florida man yet, so my rates went back to what they were before.

Having said that, I was almost forced to complete a PIT maneuver by a little SUV driving 90 on a 65-mph road, weaving through traffic and changing multiple lanes at a time. The only thing that saved him (and my front bumper) is the fact that I saw him in the corner of my eye and took my foot off the gas. He came up behind me from the left, crossed behind me, passed me on the right and cut across in front of me because there was a car in the right lane ahead of me that he didn't see. All in about 1.5 seconds or less. It looked like he was escaping from his first bank robbery.

I remember when the Lawyers and doctors couldn't even advertise on TV... The good ole days.

But now... The biggest pimps on TV are the pharmaceutical industry.

The Florida Bar only caps rates. There are attorneys that will negotiate lower rates.

Never heard of any that do that but I suppose it's possible. Certainly not the ones on TV and billboards.
