His situation is a sad one. He somehow needs to get a handle on expectations before he blows his chance. Your suggestion of a mid-major would be the correct choice, imho. Probably somewhere out of the state of Florida where he's not known & won't feel pressure to perform.

Sloan went nads to the wall, then got them caught in a vice.

Riley can slash as good as anyone. But he plays in blinding flashes, brilliance and inconsistence.

DeVoe was an extremely successful coach at UT until UT decided that they needed to fire him and hire Wade Houston. Wade was the dad of a VERY talented high school player named Allan Houston.

Actually worked out very badly for UT basketball. Under DeVoe they were extremely competitive. Under Wade Houston not so much and it took years for them to recover.

Now DeVoe was a "no nonsense" coach that came into a totally nonsense program. Sloan didn't show any discipline over his players. It was a perfect storm for a horrible season but only half the blame should be on DeVoe. The other half was on the players. Head butting by butt heads both ways.

I went to every game that year and even went to the SEC tourney because I could get Bull Gator seats for pennies on the dollar. And no UK that year made the whole thing like a wake.

Where does Kugel go? Heard he may have dropped some classes and unable to transfer into certain college programs

Grades and or class attendance would explain some of the games that he did not play in.

After the academic issues were raised it was always gonna be a school like this. The best combo of a “we didn’t come here to play school” school and decent program.
Will be interesting to see how it pans out. I think we only play them once and it’s in Starkville.

I actually had some thoughts it might not work for him at KU (and got challenged at bit here)
I never considered grades or class; more based upon his chaotic up and down last season here. Something was amiss and changing campuses may not be his elixir.

Will SEC waive rule requirement to sit out a year when transferring in conference?

Good for Riley. I wish he had been able to close out at UF, but it wasn’t in the cards. I’m guessing both sides were ok with his departure.

Does that rule still exist? It would seem to contradict court and NCAA rulings and would affect a lot of other in-conference transfers going on right now.

The rule still does exist for those transferring in conference during the spring portal season. I think the SEC is the only one with this in place, or at least one of a small amount. Most conferences allow immediate eligibility within conference all year long now.
