Mullen said AR was not ready. He threw three interceptions in the second half of the LSU game under Mullen. He started the next year and wasn’t all that great last year. It’s debatable if he would’ve started the previous year, maybe he would’ve had a better year last year, it’s also possible that he would not have gotten any better if AR hast to play this year in the NFL he’s going to have a very rough time and unless he gets his passing up to par. He’s going to get her running the ball too much.

    Are you a theoretical physicist?

As I said, up to a point. You were blunt in your assessment, with the potential for crassness.

    Theoretically speaking.

For the Stat researchers, has a major D1 QB ever even lost to both Kentucky and Vandy in the same season and then gone on to be successful in the NFL?
I'm not seeing how the switch just flips on all of a sudden for AR and he gets it?

I understand that you think that, but I believe we were discussing whether playing badly "ruins" a player.

Apologies if I came off as crass. Was not intended.

Sometimes it probably hurts them and sometimes it probably speeds up their learning curve. Probably more to do with the individual. I’m definitely for gettting Leg, Waze, feet wet, at least next year with a limited package.

Threw 3 ints trying to dig our team out of the hole the offense dug for us early. If I remember correctly he had some great moments trying to bring the team back.

after 15 years of obscurity, we are due for a gem. Richardson would have been had he stayed. Now we have another top QB in a long line of prospects. He is not coming to a program that was 12-1 last year. We were 6-7 the last two years.

There is no pressure on him even if we have a winning season this year.

    Look at history.

How many coaches in modern UF or a major P5 program are able to have two straight mediocre years and not have the seat warm up? It is damn near a guarantee

Your problem is honestly you struggle with reading comprehension.

TJ (plus myself and others) are saying IF this happens then THIS will happen

Even if the scenario is consensus it doesn’t mean we are rooting for it or even expecting it to happen

But since you are in the mood for proof which coaches had a cold seat after two weak initial years? I can give you a long list of coaches whose seats warmed up…. Our Zook (with 8 wins), Frost, Taggart, pick your Miami coach…shall I continue?

Unless we go back to the portal and get a one year transfer who would be that much of a difference maker, or he is a total bust his senior year (two improbables any QB on that level with one year remaining will declare for the draft), or Mertz, Miller, or Brown have standout performances this year (which I hope one of the does), he will be the de facto starter in 2024-25.

You can't possibly quote Mullen as having "known something" when he was starting EJ. Remember how he refused to play Trask as well? Mullen defenders are hilarious.

Thank you for putting it in more comprehensible terms than me.

Napier has year 3 guaranteed (unless he goes all Jim McElwain on a weekly conference). How he does in year 2 determines the temperature of his seat in year 3.

There is simply no way to look at two consecutive 6-7 seasons with losses to all our rivals and give Napier a longer leash than we gave Zook. Year 3 will then become the make or break year for Napier.

I personally think Napier should have 4 years. I also didn’t expect to lose to Vandy last year and implode the way we did after the SC win. I knew AR was gone, but the way our season ended, the lackluster spring game, the non-existent QB room (not gonna sugar coat it, our QB situation IS BAD), and the very real prospects of another 6-7 season place Napier squarely on the hot seat for ‘24. Not my doing, not my choice, simply reality. The big boosters, donors, and decision makers will not tolerate 6-7, 6-7, and a lackluster 2024 that doesn’t show the necessary improvement to overcome those two 6-7 seasons and earn a 2025 season. And yes, Stricklin’s fate is tied to Napier’s.

Definitely not taking up for Mullen but we saw AR last year and he still wasn’t ready.

This… year three it could warm up if there isn’t progress. Most expect another down year this year.

Getting back to the original topic:

What exactly is the unexpected turn the QB "battle" is taking?

I saw two mediocre QBs play mediocre. I don't think that's unexpected, nor a turn from 2022.,

Hopefully, the turn is another QB in the portal.

Nebraska’s QB is entering the transfer portal.

Unless we have top notch SEC talent at every other position on the field, we need a difference maker at QB.

Our two guys are as stated above, mediocre.

I would like to see Mertz be a game manager QB but we don’t have an adequate supporting cast to make that happen.
