They can redshirt and keep the nil money?

NIL can't be tied to performance or playing time.
Yes we all know it's pay for play but they can't put that in the contract.

I hope very soon some rules will be put in place that allows the collectives to pay for services rendered. But then, who would put such rules in place. The NCAA is toothless.

Yet, UF has a history of paying coaches to do just that....

I think, ultimately, regulation will come through the SEC and Big Whatever conferences plus the Big 12 . . . and that east coast JV league (aka the ACC) will be dragged kicking and screaming into either acceptance or holding their own play-offs in a few years when the current contract expires. The Holes will agree and then sue everyone else though regardless. LOL! :)

True. But NIL payments at UF are made monthly on the first. They are not lump sum.

so, I’d guess if it was obvious to the collective that someone was opting out or redshirting to then leave UF, they’d stop the next NIL payment. Pretty simple really.

If it isn’t pay of play then would not paying be a breach of contract on the collective’s part?
This is all convoluted as a moon landing…

Then they could be sued if the contract stated to the end of the semester or season.

Provided the NIL contract says that. None of us know what those contracts actually say.

I guess it would depend on how the contract was written. If we Trevor Etienne NIL money and he didn't get all of it and transferred to UGAG, then we are still paying him to play against us? Doesn't sound right.

If that's in their NIL contracts. But, isn't that still illegal in the NCAA or in Florida for an NIL deal to have a stipulation of playing on a particular school's team? Even though that is what is probably effectively happening in most places, isn't it technically against the rules?

If these contracts were actual NIL, it would make a huge difference in the value of an NIL deal if the player was actually contributing to a team. If he wasn't, his real NIL value for advertising would be worthless, as nobody would know who he is.

    Rashada's had a 30-day termination notice so I'm sure there's a standard.

Honestly, their value is pretty much worthless anyway for 95 percent of the NIL deals. If your 3rd string left tackle advertised for the local car dealer, would it affect anyone's decision on whether to buy a car from there or not? Of course not. Only the biggest names have any advertising value at all. So, that's the veil of legitimacy on all of this. It's a way to pay the players and call it the right to work.

getting paid on the 1st is in the agreements. Playing in games is not. But collective can not pay and the player can choose, not to play at any time I’d guess. So, the collective would never announce they didn’t make a payment because a player chose to redshirt. Payments would just stop - they’d also stop asking the player to attend events, autograph signings, etc and thus can justify no payments that way. Just guessing on my part.

Dear god. Everyone should read this crap. These contracts commit us to pay tens of millions of dollars to players, without any mention in the contract of them actually playing ball, or trying to play ball.

But we can terminate the contract if the athlete moves out of Gainesville, or fails to be a post secondary student, or fails to perform per section 3.

What is required in section 3? that the athlete perform multiple social media functions on various social medial sites, and attend events, sign autographs. No mention is made of actually playing.

So a player could get a giant NIL payout, ride pine and never play or even try to play, but as long as they are enrolled in school, stay in Gainesville, and do their social media thing, they get paid.

    Straight up madness.
