Me too, I mistyped. Is it NOT silly for big people to want big seats. I think season ticket holders will win this one, but if we even mess with the seating we will be opening up a can of worms with code violations that we might not be able to fix without losing way over 10,000 seats, because of lack of facilities and exits... and such. That right there, just getting compliant will be a budget drain and will NOT be worth the hassles.

If safety issues are a real concern for these law makers, then maybe the state of Florida can retro-activate a new law that prohibits a swimming pool being built or allowed to even exist within 500 feet of a football stadium. Then maybe we can get our stadium compliant with these codes without having our hands tied behind our backs. :D:);)

I know you're just kidding, M. Sorry if I offended you... not my intention.

Why don't we wait for the architectural firm to be selected, and have their plan published before we break out the pitchforks?

So my seats are in section 12. Roughly 30 yd line, 20 rows up. A pair of tickets here are somewhere between $2.5-$3k/yr. For that, you get a spot on an aluminum bleacher that's norrower than the average adult male's shoulders. I'm a mid 40s, 50th percentile male. But for a game where everyone on the row shows up, you're sitting sideways to squeeze everyone in.

Now I fully realize that the area I'm in is prime candidate for upgrades. Conceptually, I would welcome defined seats a few inches wider. But I know that and wider aisles will halve the seating capacity in my section. I fully expect the price to go up 2x or more, and even if I decide to pony up, I may not have enough booster points to secure seats in my section.

It'll be an interesting decision to make if I get pushed out. A football weekend has never been inexpensive, but between the insane hotel prices and awful turnpike/75 traffic these days, going to games is nowhere near as easy and enjoyable as it used to be.

Might as well enlarge seats and reduce capacity, 'cause interest will never again be what it was a generation ago and people are going to keep getting fatter.

If the objection to fewer seats is that it'll mean less noise and a less intimidating atmosphere, I'm not sure that's necessarily the case.

Let's wait and see what the architects come up with before we jump to that conclusion.

This is a good point. Very few games have been 100% full in recent years. Regardless of what the announced attendance may have been. Removing excess seat inventory that goes unused would have no impact on noise levels.

For an example where less is more when it comes college football stadium seating. Just look what Wisconsin did to their south endzone.

They turned 6,000 awful seats into 2,600 amazing premium seats in 2022. It changed the vibe of the entire stadium.

Can anyone point out other teams reducing capacity? when Texas and Oklahoma join we will be 7th in the conference, drop 10000 seats and we will be 9th.

I mean college football teams, not the pros.

No, becasue they either face the ridiculous new code enforcement in their own state.... if they mess with seating, or then know that college football is best when you have more fans in the stands... with less comfortable fatazzes hogging up space with muted screams...

I'm pretty sure I read that Penn State would be reducing the seating capacity of Beaver Stadium as part of their upcoming renovation.

Florida Field was loud even before the south endzone expansion in 1982. What was capacity prior to that expansion? Maybe 60-65K? We have the 20th largest stadium in the world (12th largest in the USA and yet only the 7th largest in the SEC if including Texas) and it being nearly bowled in it should still be rockin' loud even if capacity is reasonably reduced.
