Governor Ron DeSantis Awards More Than $68 Million for Electric Transit Buses (flgov.com) 7 Florida School Districts Awarded Clean, Electric Buses - Florida Conservation Voters (fcvoters.org) $68 million for transit busses and $57 million for school busses. In addition to the transit and school busses, grants also will be used for 150 charging stations along our Florida highway system.
Good step towards where we need to be. Almost 450 busses total. Meanwhile our democratic governor was patted on the back because he dished out 3M for 5 (+/-) busses here including ONE school bus. Thanks to Democrats, Electric Buses Are Coming to North Carolina | North Carolina Democratic Party Stupid conservatives and their ignorance of science. Oh wait
If I’m reading this correctly, the source of the funds is actually from the settlement of an EPA lawsuit against Volkswagen, and it requires investment in alt energy as a condition. This is FL’s “share” of that settlement. What was Desantis going to do, reject the money? Actually I guess when we look at Medicaid funding some of these guys actually ARE that nuts. So I guess some credit is warranted for taking “free” money for green energy, instead of rejecting the “free” money and subsidizing coal fired plants instead… to “own da libz” of course. Either way, not sure this comparison is apples to apples with your NC example. NC probably got some “settlement” money too, your article is referring to a small slice of the infrastructure bill.
It cuts both ways. If Newsom and California had done this, one can imagine what the OP’s post would sound like.
Not sure the tech is mature enough to place into heavy vehicles of this nature. The last thing school districts need is equipment that is less reliable than the current fleets are.
One thing about buses is they have plenty of floor to put batteries under. One company claims they can get 1100 miles out of an electric bus on one charge.
