Another Gator baseball player getting recognition for his play in college baseball. This time it's Luke Heyman from behind the plate getting well deserved accolades. As a freshman in 2023, Florida catcher Luke Heyman quickly established himself as the successor to BT Riopelle for the Gators. His skills behind the plate were unmatched in his high school class, and that translated to SEC ball. Heyman’s bat also played in college as he slashed .314/.366/.555 and belted 12 home runs. Great for him. Last year was a lesson in what needs to come together for a championship appearance: yes, we had some star returning players, but it was a combination of star freshmen and upperclassmen making big leaps that stood out to me. I hope we see some of the same this year: we may really need it in the rotation.
