Book bans: Here are the 411 books banned in Florida schools

WTF!!!!! Henry Aaron? My all time hero, Roberto Clemente? Of Mice and Men?

So who are the new book police that are taking away my parental rights for my kids education? Do tell who these people of higher intelligence are that dont think the rest of us have a brain?

While I am at it, it is very apparent that 2022 book bans are only happening to satisfy the purity police also known as brainwashed fundamentalist Christians. The same group of fools that burned record albums and fought against civil rights and supported the Vietnam War etc etc. Parental rights for a few and not representing us all.
To think MAGA blasts hatred towards a socialist state when this is a step to a fascist state.

America and its incredible journey of ignorance continues.

They are taking away your rights to enforce the rights of others. People Bam competing ideas because they are afraid of them. Like Henry Aaron’s experiences with racism are not something they want their children to know about. Instead. They want to teach that our founding fathers started the abolition movement when they were slave owners and counted slaves as 3/5 of a person. Great men with great ideas who were men of their times. This is the way dictators operate. And, but the way, when the state takes away property rights from a company like Disney, as it did, and does not pay compensation for those rights, that is socialism. Let’s see if the state pays Disney billions from the surplus DeSantis brags about (which comes from federal COVID aid). Wouldn’t that be a win for the taxpayers of the state? All of which is why they ban books. Orwellian.

Here's Henry Aaron's Dream. I honestly don't know why it's banned. Were all of these books just banned this year? For all I know, this book could have been banned from the schools because it has multiple references to black people as "colored." I don't think that's a legitimate reason for banning it, but it would be useful context to know who pushed for the ban.

A Dog Named Haku is banned? That books is about helping a dog during a Hindu festival and is harmless.

It's the Festival of Lights in Nepal, and today is the day to honor dogs! Brothers Alu and Bhalu wander the streets of Kathmandu, passing by twirling kites and bamboo swings, looking for a dog to feed. But as night falls, their task begins to feel hopeless, until they spot a small black dog who is in need of a friend. This sweet story presents an important Hindu holiday through the eyes of two young boys, making it relatable for both those familiar with the holiday and those reading about it for the first time.

That's it in a nutshell, another of life's great ironies (utterly lost on the come on man crowd).

Here's Roberto Clemente: Pride of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Again, I don't know why it was banned. The story about Roberto's lukewarm relationship with the media is true. All I know is, the name of my Little League team in the summer of 1971 was the Pirates. I'll always be proud of that, as if in some small way, my inner 10 year old self was part of it.

Henry Aaron’s book has the N word in it. That’s probably why. I have to ask,,, When was the book banned from Florida schools? Was this done recently?

Good read with some comments by Henry Aaron himself. If you really care about the boom ban you will read this.

Don’t know the date. According to this list, it was temporarily removed for review by one county. FL Censorship Action By Title - Google Drive

The article you posted mentions there is no statewide ban which is true. I would expect the list to be county specific

Yep it is based on county/district so I'd ignore the USA article

Here are the books banned from Central Florida schools

We contacted every school district in Central Florida. Not every school district responded to our requests. The following is a combination of lists from the 10 Central Florida school districts that responded, or PEN America’s index.

You would think the journalist would have provided more detail. It didn’t take that much effort to find.

It has the N word in it. That’s probably why. We’ve made that word the most vile word ever stated.

It’s caused people to kill each other, lose their jobs, be banned and shunned, etc. Why let a child read the word, repeat it and get in trouble?

My suggestion is to remove the N word and make the book available. Because of the N word kids and people will not have the ability to learn about the racist issues Henry Aaron faced. That’s the sad part.
