I don't remember the date it happened, but the turnaround on defense began after the players had a meeting and asked the coaches to simplify the defense.

 

Yeah that was the rumor. I just dont know if that was ever confirmed or to what degree the issues were is all.

There are also still some apparent coaching issues, like clock management in the Ole Miss game that we managed to get away with.

But I think a whole lot of Gator Nation is beginning to believe Billy can give us a winning combination despite not being the best gameday coach in the world. Recruiting, development, and delegating responsibilities to good coaches for those roles is his ticket.

There is one thing for certain, this coaching staff and this team have not mailed it in. As big of a Mullen fan as I am, both he and the team seemed to quit in 2021.

 

If we win the F$u game and bowl game we end the season ranked with major momentum for next season.

The recruit's are coming back and I have a good feeling the portal is going to be really good to us this year.

there are no 4-loss teams in the top 25 and it's ridiculous that a 5-loss team is not in??? Beat f$u and win the bowl game and it's possible, especially if the bowl win is against a ranked opponent

Yes, indeed. All 5 of the losses came at teams ranked in the top 19; 4 of those losses came from teams ranked in the top 8. So yes, it's not a stretch that we should be ranked in the top 25.

 

Steve Russell said on the post game call in show that simplification of the defense was the reason for improvement. But what, if anything, does he know.

 

Napier and current staff are doing a multitude of things right and derserve bigtime recognition. Tgat sai, gameday coaching and click management aret close to elite and that has to change if we dont want to lose games that we should win in the future. I can dee us 9-3 next year and missing the playoffs for things that didnt have to happen. Napier has the ability to be a great coach if his pride doesn't get in his way and he hires talent to help him with his deficiencies .

 

We are probably playing like a top 25 team right now.

My issue is that you still need to penalize teams for losses earlier in the season. I don’t think we are a top 25 team when you judge us on our entire season as a whole.

 

I'm a homer but believe we deserve top 20ish if we beat fsu and win our bowl.

 

Lost to UGA, TAM, TN, Texas and Miami. Look at their rank. Winning at TN when QB injured and lose in OT. Winning against Georgia when QB injured.

Beat LSU and Ole Miss. look at their rank when playing them.

 

It's pretty rare to have a 5 loss team in the final poll -- quick check shows only 2 in the last 3 years. I think UF has a chance of making it if they win the last two. Would be a big step in the right direction for this program.

 

Ok so let's look at their total combined losses. Before this week it was 9 losses among the 5 teams we've lost to. 11 now if you add Miami and A&M losses this week. Before this week's results, 4 of those teams we lost to were ranked in the top 8 of the CFP. That's pretty damn impressive competition.
