Had to be helped off the court against Ga Tech. Didn’t look good. Wonder if he can’t go do they still get 1 seed?
There's precedent for knocking teams down a line or two bc of a key injury like this. But it probably depends on the prognosis, if Duke says they expect Flagg back by the S16 then I think they keep their 1 seed but maybe get shipped out west.
He walked back to the bench with his sneakers on. He's good. Out today - prolly done for ACCT. No chance he's back on court if it was serious. He'd be on way to MRI and immediate rehab.
I know we complained about what happened to Micah last year, and we meant it, but... Could you fathom losing a key player before March Madness while trying to win ... the ACC tournament? What a waste..
They also lost Maliq Brown in the first half, shoulder injury. Did not return. maybe we should forfeit tomorrow night.
Oh man, I hope he’s ok. Being out for the tournament after the regular season he’s had would be such a gut punch.
This year feels like one of the more anticipated tournaments in some time, losing Flagg would hurt the overall vibe going in.
You never want to see anyone get hurt, but after what Flagg did in Las Vegas in the aftermath of the super flu and all the devastation he wrought in Mid-World, it's hard to feel too much sympathy.
Conference basketball tournaments used to be critically important years ago when only conference champs got invited to March Madness. Now, they exist for only 4 reasons, in order of importance: 1. Make money for the conference. 2. Make money for the conference. 3. Make money for the conference. 4. Help bubble teams possibly enhance their odds to make the Dance. Otherwise, and especially for teams that are guaranteed to make the NCAA tournament regardless, conference tourneys are a waste of time and can only result in negative outcomes, like injuries and fatigue. We advance to the second round last year, and possibly beyond, if Micah doesn't break his leg.
First team that immediately springs to mind is Cincinnati in 1999-00 who had a dominant team all season before Kenyon Martin went down and dropped to a 2 seed and were bounced from the tournament shortly after. They were probably better than Michigan State that season.
Yep, they're the poster child for this scenario. There was a Purdue team in 2010 I believe that also suffered because Robbie Hummel was injured late. They were a 4 seed who would have been a 2 or 3 with Hummel.
Yep, especially since Flagg was walking around so perfectly plausible thing to claim. Notre Dame I think did this a few years back, I forget the player but teams have done exactly what you're suggesting.
