FGCU takes two Today from 6-23 Queens college 14-11 and 11-5. Those wins against a 6-23 team probably not helping them much.
I'd wear my Homestar Runner Crazy Go Nuts University t-shirt for a game against them. Fighting Dumples!
FGCU is 2-5 in their last 7 games and got run ruled by Jacksonville State at home. Keep in mind they do not play Miami or Florida. Lots of 5th year seniors. I would have said I expected 11-12 losses from this team w this schedule. Already at 11. I think they are top 50 team but not top 25.
That post was somewhat tongue in cheek… and from over three weeks ago. Three weeks ago I wouldn’t have guessed we’d get completely dominated by SC.
Florida Gulf Coast has a D1 RPI ranking of #73 with an SOS of #209. They've only played 3 games against Top 50 RPI teams and are 2-1.
Yeah, for some reason no Florida or Miami this year and FSU is bad. Struggling with who they’ve played in top 50.
D1Baseball Field of 64 Projections: Week 11 • D1Baseball (updated yesterday) - 5 SEC Supers - FLORIDA (7) paired with BC (10), and hosting #2 Arizona State (24 ELO, 31 RPI), #3 Troy (41 ELO, 29 RPI), #4 FGCU (66 ELO, 69 RPI) - #2 RPI Kentucky projected as a #2 seed in the {15} West Virginia Regional; Kentucky has lost 3 series in a row and they have a brutal finish (VU, SC, UT, UF). From the SEC: {1} LSU, {3} Carolina, {4} Vandy, {5} Arkansas, {7} FLORIDA, #2s - Bama, Kentucky, TAMU, Tennessee; #3 - Dwags; First Four Out: Auburn (leaving Ole Miss, MSU, and Missouri) Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
Cohen should be fired on spot if on that list when matters..lol But AU could be screwed if comes down to AU or MSU..
Does LSU hold onto the top spot? How high does Arkansas climb? How far does South Carolina and Florida fall? Does Florida's 3 losses at SC keep them lower in the projection? Does Florida still have a top 8 seed? What does the committee think of the SEC now after this crazy weekend? Is the bottom better than thought or the top isn't as good as advertised? Or is this all just a wash and will rinse out on the end?
Ill start at bottom.. I think SEC is looking at 10 in at minimum. Couple weeks ago I didnt think that many teams would get enough SEC wins. Now there are 6 locks, and 4 only needing 3 wins or less to get to 14. Plus UGa only game behind that. Ill just guess at the projected top 8 this week(field not polls) which answers most of rest I think ..lol 1. Wake 2 LSu 3 Ark 4 Duke 5 Vandy 6 Stanf 7 UF 8 SC..not seeing anyone better...UK maybe??
Thanks for the forecast. Always interested in people's perspective with a constructive thought process.
It's interesting, I don't think the #1 RPI team has ever not been a top 8. But Kentucky has the worst record of the top 5 in the SEC. They head to Knoxville against a UT team that has swept 3 of their 4 home SEC series. Some great SEC matchups coming down the stretch for most of these teams...and then there's LSU. Hard to figure it out today, but I think it will be more clear by the season's end and before conference tournaments begin. I don't think 5 is a reach this year (that will likely be the hosting max, regardless), but it also depends on how others do. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
After Friday night's win Gators had moved up to #8 in RPI but the two losses against a middling team- dropped us to #12. I'm waiting on today's D1 Rankings but given that the SEC is not getting more than four National Seeds- this weekend dealt a bit of a hit to our top 8 chances. Still have a shot but all along I circled 20 wins as the "guarantee" - I can't see us winning 5 of 6 against two of the better teams in the SEC with three of the games on the road. Take 4 of 6 and win 1 or 2 in the SECT and then yes we're back in business. On a positive note: the Gators are #4 in ELO. Not sure how much weight that carries with the Selection Committee but it's a good sign.
D1 Baseball's regular rankings from this morning have Florida at #7, RPI ranking at #11. Wake Forest has taken over #1 in the regular poll, and in the RPI the Top 10 are: Kentucky, Wake Forest, South Carolina, LSU, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Duke, Boston College, Virginia and Indiana State. What seems to be hurting the Gators in the RPI is strength of schedule. We are #35 in SOS, Kentucky is #1, South Carolina #7, LSU #11, Arkansas #13, Vamdy #14. Kentucky is only #17 in the regular D1 rankings.
Yeah, our sos took a hit by playing a couple of teams in the state that are currently 10 or more games below .500, and then there's still JU, FAU, UNF, BCU. UCG was the only top 60 RPI in-state opponent this year. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
